Can someone dumb these down for me? What exactly is she?
I’m PRETTY sure that a het means they HAVE a morph gene BUT they don’t express the pattern of that morph? Right? But don’t take my word for it, I’m not experienced
Het means they have 1 copy of an allele, so incomplete dominant and dominant morphs can also be heterozygous. Recessive, dominant, and incomplete dominant just describes how a heterozygote and a homozygote affect the visual output (aka phenotype).
Dominant means a heterozygote expresses visually, incomplete dominant means the heterozygote expresses visually and the homozygote has a different appearance, and recessive means the heterozygote appears unaffected and requires two copies (aka be a homozygote) to express visually.
While the hobby uses it the way you describe, genetically that isn’t the actual meaning, and since these are genetic tests it’s important to understand the actual definition.
I don’t know enough about GHI to know if there’s a different name for the “super” or not, but visually your bp appears to be a bamboo yellowbelly GHI that carries albino. I don’t know what they mean about having all the YB mutations, since I’m not a bp expert. Not sure if that’s a complex or if there are multiple mutations called YB. But that is probably why she’s a lucy.
Ouuuhh, okay, ty! Genes are fun. Glad that snakes wear them.
@ccboas Is correct (mostly) about the terminology so I am not going to rehash that unless the OP specifically wants me to put on my “lecture mode” hat

Short version - Your animal is an Ivory Bamboo GHI het Albino. Ivory is the name the hobby uses for the homzygous (aka super form) of Yellowbelly. Bamboo and GHI are both inc-dom traits. Albino is recessive
Unlike a standard Ivory, your animal displays a higher degree of “whiteness” because of the synergistic effect provided by both Bamboo and GHI. She should stay an very creamy, milky white even into adulthood but may develop a faint yellow along the dorsal
Ohhh so they basically have a rlly pretty snek?
Love this from what I’m getting she’s gene packed and just simply amazing
Feel free to! I tried to be general and not use actual terminology for the modes of inheritance jic I got it wrong, but I may have messed up somewhere.
There’s also a little note about the Yellowbelly there.
‘Yellowbelly’ has 2 different mutations that result in the same morph appearance. I’m sure that’s another thing Travis can explain more if needed… But instead of the result being 2 of the same, your snake has one copy of yellowbelly from each type. Which is really cool.
It doesn’t matter from the breeding side. Since they’re really just the same result in the end A or B doesn’t matter. Just that they’re carrying yellowbelly
Nah, like I said, you did well enough and it was clear. I only offered to add in if the OP wanted me to go into INSANE MINUTIA OF GENETICS-level
Pls I love nerding out.
