Morph id help with my baby corn snakes

Posted awhile back regarding my male corns locking up while I had them out getting pics together  the now female layed eggs in may and they hatched last month

We now have 27 baby corns and need help seeing what I have

Mum should have just been butter tessera but has proven to be het anery and motley

Dad should have just been snow tessera pos red factor but also has proven to be het motley and i think het caramel as i think I have butters

While cleaning the tubs I got pictures of the calm babies

The pictures are numbered and il post what I think they are babies have all shed

1-snow motley tessera. 2-amel tessera. 3-snow motley tessera. 5-butter tessera. 7-amel motley tessera. 10-butter tessera. 12-snow tessera. 16-snow motley tessera this one’s pattern fades the further down its body it goes is that just normal variation

Now if dad is het caramel does that mean some of my snows could be xanthic snows?

Beautiful clutch! What are you having trouble IDing? What i saw looked accurate. I know nothing about xanthic snows.

The butters if they are definitely butters

Also some on the ones i think are tessera also kinda look motley tessera :grimacing: not with this batch but a couple others

But mostly for the xanthic snows as going of percentage some should be that but iv no idea how to tell or if they can be identified at all

14 of the 27 are snows of some type

I think you’re right on the butters. Tessera Motleys will have no side tesselation and often a dorsal stripe that goes unbroken past the vent.

This is one that im not 100% sure of

Its definitely butter but sometimes its at the front of the tub and I think tessera other times I see motley tessera  @deanaii

Here’s a Butter Tessera non-Mot from Iansvivarium.

See the sides?

Ditto on butter motley tessera. It’s a little messier than some of your clean ones, but it’s within the range of motley tesseras. I have had some very similar hatchlings from guaranteed homozygous motley parents.

@caryl knows better how to ID xanthic snows than I do, but I’d say from what she’s said in other posts that #16 is a xanthic based on its yellow nose.

Congrats on a beautiful clutch!

Yes, you’re right. The sire has to be het Caramel. The Butters are deceiver Butters.

Yes, expect that.

There’s a caveat that odds are simply odds, not rules; sometimes your babies are way off the chart on odds either way. When one parent is homozygous and the other is het for whatever recessive trait (like Caramel in this pairing), roughly half of the babies will be homozygous/visual for that trait. The math gets a bit more complicated when you’re looking at multiple recessive traits appearing, but still you should expect that about half your Snows (Tessera or not) will be Xanthic Snows. Yes, this can be identified although it’s tricky. It’s easier as they age a bit, easier still in person.
The head shot of #1 looks like a maybe Xanthic. There’s a slight yellowish tint about it but I’m not confident thar this isn’t just the lighting. #16 is almost surely Xanthic. The overall body tint, the not-simply-pink eye and the little bit of yellow on its nose which @snakesofshadowlake noticed all say Xanthic. It’s true that Snows can develop vastly varying degrees of yellow even without Caramel. However, this is a neonate who wouldn’t be expected to have so much yellow without being homozygous Caramel.

Cute babies, congrats!

Not a super clear image, but I do still lean toward Xanthic, yes.

Wow, you were busy! That is quite a montage. I do have an idea how much work it was. Your babies are sweethearts, too. They weren’t bolting off too quickly to catch a picture. At least, not all of the time!

I took a good look as requested. Of course, I can well be wrong. Any Xanthic or RF tones should become more obvious as they grow and shed over the next few months. The Xanthic Snows may keep their golden tones or these may be mostly covered by the white which will develop as they grow. Here are my thoughts based upon these these images:

  1. possibly Xanthic. I see golden tones in bottom left pic
  2. Maybe RF?
  3. Typically pretty Snow
  4. Xanthic for sure
  5. Possibly Xanthic
  6. Xanthic
  7. Likely Xanthic
  8. Possibly RF
  9. Possibly Xanthic. Bottom R Pic looks most likely.
  10. Typically pretty Snow

Hope that helps. It really is a challenge to identify possible variations in baby Snows.

Well, this is weird. My reply didn’t include all the info. Baby #11 wasn’t included. When I tried to edit it, the info was in the error but it wouldn’t appear on the thread. I’ll do a bug report.

Anyway, yes, #11 looks likely Xanthic to me.

Fyi, I did the bug report and realized that the problem was that my response was being automatically sequenced. It left the info but changed the ID numbers. Simply weird.

Will add them here

Here’s my take on the last quartet with the caveat that of course I can be wrong.

  1. #19 Normal Snow or possibly RF
  2. #27 looks like something is going on. Maybe Xanthic? Hard to say.
  3. #25 likely Xanthic
  4. #23 Classically pretty Snow

Here’s one of my Xanthic Snow Stripes, Severus. He also looks to be visual Halo and his golden tones are stronger than most, but he might give you an idea of what to look for in your babies. You can scroll through the images to see his progression. The overall golden tint is there from the beginning. His parents are both homozygous Caramels so there was never a question whether here was Xanthic. You can scroll through the images to see his progression. The overall golden tint is there from the beginning. (Note: Severus is not now nor has he ever been for sale so I think posting a link to his page is ok. Seemed the simplest way to show progression. I can take it down if need be.)

I LOVE Severus, but FYI the link accidentally doubled the web address so it didn’t work until I deleted the duplicate.

Are Solana and Scheherazade his sisters?
