We recently got this male from a local reptile store for my 10yr old son. My son loves to know ALL things about his pets and animals/reptiles in general. This snake was listed as pastel pewter at the store but we are just learning about morphs and all that entails. So, any guidance you all can give would be amazing!!
So I do believe your boy is a Pewter, which is a combo of Pastel and Cinnamon. There wouldn’t be an additional Pastel in there unless he was a Super Pastel Cinnamon which looks way different (a lot more fading of the pattern) and is referred to as “Sterling” which I definitely do not think he is. For context Super Pastel is when you have 2 copies of the Pastel gene in one snake which creates a “super”.
Do you think he could be a black pewter?
I don’t think so, he seems a bit light for a Black Pewter… but if you really want to know you can do shed testing for Black Pastel through Morphmarket’s genetic testing. If you got positive for Black Pastel it would confirm it. Btw “Black Pewter” does not contain the Cinnamon gene… its confusing lol, Black Pewter is the Black Pastel gene + the Pastel gene.
(Edit): I’d assume your local Petstore doesn’t have any info on the snake’s parents or pairing. It could help if you contacted them to see if they do… otherwise I think shed testing for Cinnamon, Pastel, and Black Pastel might be your best bet without that info.
Cinnamon isn’t available yet, but black pastel and Barnhart black pastel are available. I’m hoping cinny is out soon. I’ve been waiting to test one of my boys.
Ah darn. Thanks for pointing that out!
There is no leopard in op’s animal. She is a gorgeous example of a pewter.
As tax, a pair of pewters I hatched this year from
Super cinny x super pastel lesser spider
Welcome to the community! Very pretty snake you have there!
I may an expert but I’m not a total expert at identifying genes yet. But it’s definitely a pewter no doubt about that. ( pastel cinnamon )
But I really really think there’s another gene. I have worked with leopard the past 5 years and sometimes I get confused because some other morphs just have similar spotting but I still really think there’s leopard there possibly.
But again not a trained eye for it.
Also to be that big and still have such vibrant deeply saturates congratt, Rita of
Leopard
Look at
My females
Pattern. She shows
Leopard very strongly as I think yours is similar.
This might be a stretch but does anyone else see axanthic a little
Bit ? She’s really bright they usually fade especially when older.
Nvm the axanthic part. It was my lighting and now that I see him in your hands in full color it’s not. But I still think his pattern is very similar to my
Pastel leopard yb
Sterling (super pastel cinnamon) is very noticeable. They extremely axanthic looking with a lot of
Blushing. They are one of my fav.
