OK here goes does anyone have a Super GHI, Super Black Pastel that would like to show me a picture of ???
I’m not aware of one having been made. Probably because Super BlkPastel tends send a lot of animals to the freezer and/or create animals that have visually unappealing kinks. Super GHI I suspect to have some issues as well aside from the baggy skin that I’ve seen when I produced them. There should be a lot more of them floating around than there are by now.
Given that super black pastel is a black snake and super GHI is a nearly black snake, you’d likely be looking at a very dark snake without much pattern.
I might be way off base here with the reason you wanted to see that combo. Are you just wanting to see an example of a snake that’s pretty close to being pure black? If that’s what you are looking for, I’m pasting a link to a really dark combo that I really like.
Hope I’m not breaking community rules here (please delete me if not allowed).
Also, you have probably already checked out Morphmarket, but If you haven’t then I highly recommend poking around in there
The Abyss is one of those combos I’m suprised we haven’t seen more of. Given how long ago the first one came out and how many people know of and are into that look, and how relatively available the morphs are, I’ve only seen pictures of several. Much like with what @ballornothing said about Super GHI, I’m really, really surprised we haven’t seen more Abysses floating around (even just people sharing pictures of ones they’ve produced, not neccessarily for sale)
I’m a big fan of the abyss (super mahogany GHI) also. Thinking it replaces any reason to produce super cinnamon/black pastel combos. Really hoping there aren’t any issues with super mahogany with or without GHI (I haven’t heard of any).
I did have a super GHI male who did well for me but I had noticed he shed often and sometimes had shed problems before reading that is a known issue with super GHI. Not sure it was a big enough issue to avoid super GHI in my abyss project though. But will avoid having cinnamon and/or black pastel on both sides of any dark snake project pairings.
Although I will probably never be a breeder, one of my dream snakes to produce would be an Abyss Pied. Are there any known issues with that combo?
@carrionn I apologize if I misunderstood the original intent of your post; please feel free to correct me of course
There shouldn’t be. But as has been mentioned here about some specific dark combos they should be more available than they are but for some reason you just don’t see them.
I’m working on the pied abyss. Don’t have any reason to expect issues but I’m always a sceptic until proven otherwise.
My 2023 holdback GHI mahogany het pied male.
Hopefully the lack of abyss pictures so far is just that too many other awesome ball python projects competing with it. Also, maybe everyone didn’t grow up wanting an indigo snake from that paperback book in every pet store in the 80s. But I’m really looking forward to hatching an abyss and will share any issues I see.
If we’re talking making the absolute darkest ball pythons you gotta have Black Head in there. Acid/Confusion as a second. Here’s a Black Head Acid Black Pastel Leopard Mystic
That’s a nice dark ball python! The abyss just seems like a nice short cut due to fewer genes but without much information on it/them or many pictures to confirm that abyss looks a little darker probably makes sense to keep gathering other dark genes together also. I am really impressed with blackhead and leopard and am pairing them now but would take me years and years to combine them with yet to acquire confusion not to mention black pastel.
Definitely. I think that snake was 4 years of work for me! Just wish in hindsight that it was het Pied hah!
The color and iridescence on your snake is
That’s quick. It took me 20 to make an albino pied (started with het albino male and pos het pied males).
