Morph we should avoid | we should get

Thank you for everyone’s comments. Thanks to those comments, i learned some new things! Due to not doing enough research, i bought bad morphs , so I want to ask for everyone’s opinion on the following two issues.

  • what are the worst morphs in leopard geckos ?
  • What are the best morphs in leopard geckos ?

I’m not really sure what you mean by worst or best, but I do know that enigma leopard geckos often have neurological issues, and because of that most Leo breeders choose not to breed them. Lemon frost Leo’s are prone to skin cancer, another reason why most breeders don’t breed them. I don’t think there are any “best” Leo morphs, but I can say some of my favorites.

  1. I find bandit leopard geckos to be absolutely beautiful! Especially bold bandits.

  2. Tangerine carrot tail leopard geckos are gorgeous in my opinion! They’re both line-bred, but they’re still beautiful!

  3. I also think super snow leopard geckos are very beautiful! The whites and the dark really pretty in my opinion.

I’m not super experienced with Leo’s yet though, so these people should know much better:

Unfortunately op found that out the hard way in another post. A breeder sold them an enigma and it sounds like a lemon frost as well.
Honestly with leopard geckos those are the only two genes that you won’t want to work with. Anything else can still be on the table if it’s the right combo.

Super snows can sometimes have some nasal issues but overall are a beautiful gecko. I think the super snow eclipse het bell op has is still a great option for a male breeder.

If it was my project, I would go with a bell albino female at the very least. The three types of albinos are not compatible, so you will need to make sure the female is also Bell strain to have albino offspring. Albino is better than het because all of the offspring will be het bell. If you breed 2 hets, you won’t know which of the non albinos are carrying the het.

From there… It will really depend on what you like in leopard geckos.
Some consideration for additional genes for your female would be:
Snow/super snow
Eclipse/het eclipse

This would still produce some cute little babies with the male that is available.

You can also consider finding an albino female with Blizzard or Patternless. But that would be a more long-term project and produce snow albinos het eclipse or snow het albino eclipse that are also het for blizzard or patternless

Linebred traits like Tangerine or Super Hypo are fun, but without knowing the history of the male, it would just make muddled offspring that may not be tang or super hypos. So that would be better for a full RADAR project instead. A problem with RAPTOR and RADARs on the market is how many of them are actually no longer super hypo tangs because of outcrossing.

Hope this helps a bit!

Definitely lemon frost and enigma might be considered a ‘bad morph’, not that they’re necessarily bad but I don’t recommend working with them or anything of that sort if you’re not experienced…with their health issues and all it’s not recommended that you breed them.

I don’t know what you mean exactly by the BEST morphs, but my favs are the blizzard morph and just plain ole normals.

I mean… A morph that causes cancer is pretty bad. =\

Enigma I feel is more of an issue than spider and its related genes in ball pythons… So this one makes me a bit of a hypocrite maybe as I do own 2 spider BPs but would never own enigma Leos.
Seizures are not something I would wish on any animal. But is still acceptable to some leo breeders. Vestibular disorders at least are somewhat more tolerable…but can still lead to an occasional severe case needing euthanasia.

Edit: also… Neither of those genes are allowed for sale on MorphMarket because of those issues.
