Hi. So i am trying to move my BP from mice to rats and i tried today. She didn’t even strike and wrap at the rat. She just bit it and started eating. Has your snake ever did that? I love to include pictures, these were a day or two before i fed her. I also added her gulping down that rat and her sweet little face after her meal.

Its fairly common, I believe there has been at least one instance in all of my f/t eaters where they just went straight to eating their meal without constriction.
Idk if this is the reason or not but I think they do have a sense of what they are eating, if their food isn’t fighting and struggling then why go through the effort of constriction.
In my experience my snakes that have eaten f/t their whole lives do this the most.
Either way its good that your snake handled the prey change well!

My blood python usually takes her rat super gently off the tongs and just eats it without constricting it. Like a dog who takes treats super gently, it’s adorable.
Though occasionally she’s downright violent, hits it like a truck and drags it all over the enclosure while she “kills” it. Just depends on her mood.

It happens, a lot. As @jawramik mentioned about her blood python, mine do it too. All seven of them. If they are in their enclosure, fine. But if they are hanging out the door, they’re very eager, I give a short tug/wriggle and they wrap up. I can then put them back with no fuss.
I have a couple balls that are that relaxed as well. A quick grab, pause to make sure it’s dead, then gulp!
They seem to habituate to p/k or f/t feedings and have learned that they don’t need to spend energy to hunt.
I also think it shows trust in that the giant doesn’t eat snakes.

Maybe its because i get scared and jump sometimes when she strikes lol. I don’t know why though

I hope she trust me. Last night i put my hand in her enclosure and she slithed on me so i felt like that was a plus. Its rewarding to get a snake to trust you
