MT reptile law/s question

So I was considering possibly next year getting a few plains garter snakes. The problem is, they are a native here, and I can’t really find(or maybe i’m just misunderstanding), any real answer on if I can own them or not?

I’ve looked on the prohibited species list, and all that’s listed are large constrictors and venomous snakes.

Even if no one knows for sure, could I at least get a point is possibly where to go to find out? Thank you for your help.

While I can’t help you with the law as I’m not finding anything specific about possession of native wildlife produced in captivity, you might try contacting the Fish, Wildlife, and Parks department: ABOUT FWP :: Contact Us | Montana FWP

I’d think either licensing or the wildlife division might be able to help you on this one.
