Somewhere-someplace I remember reading about a ball python mustache being a marker or trait identifier. Now I have an animal with one that I noticed, and I can’t find the article/discusstion/morph ID? Does anyone know if this is really a thing and point me in the right direction.
Not one that I’m familiar with.
Really cute tho.
Ive seen this on some spider combos. I think maybe this is where the spotnose gene gets its name from maybe?. So as a marker I would say it could be a marker for spider complex animals but I dont know that for sure so just giving an opinion.
Fire Spider
I haven’t heard of anything related to moustaches on BPs so I’m sorry I can’t help here,
I just wanted to say that its a really adorable look though! Reminds me of the Boa moustaches.
It could be Spotnose but without more photos of the snake there isn’t really a clear way to know for sure. A big thing that gives away Spotnose is their headstamp, it stands out quite a bit.
According to the Morphpedia entry for Spotnose, it has little to do with the actual nose of the animal, if I’m interpreting this correctly:
The head of a Spotnose Ball Python is almost always dominated by a large headstamp, often said to look like a skull, with spots along the top lip. Note that the “nose” of the skull is the spot that remains in the center of the forehead even when the Spotnose is mixed with other morphs. This is where the name “spotnose” comes from. (Be careful identifying Spotnose if the python is mixed with a morph that fades out the headstamp, like pastel.)
this snake is one from a previous post here. I just noticed the mustache recently and remembered reading something about it. Last clutch of 2024 - #5 by ddolata
