Just thought id add a better picture for the mum of these two babies!
@shadowspiderjack She is so colorful and bright! Very pretty momma!
Thank you!
Darn, I’m sorry the babies didn’t eat. Hopefully they’ll go for boiled. I know it’s upsetting when they refuse meals. Please don’t be discouraged, though. Healthy babies don’t hatch hungry; you have time to try and get them to cooperate.
Their mother looks healthy and beautiful. She’s made a woeful recovery from eggs. Good job!
Thanks! Ill likely refrain from handling the babies at all until Wednesday. Ill only check on them but not actually take them out of the tubs. Both of them are also very active at night and i always see them out of the hides exploring which is really cute! Hopefully they eat on wednesday.
Sounds wise. Most of them are more active in the evenings. By all means, enjoy watching them. Waiting to handle them until they’re feeding is a good idea.
Hopefully they’ll take the next offering.
Lol that’s a cute little face! Looks happy to be “winning” hide and seek by being so “well” hidden.
Nice. I always enjoy watching them explore. Hopefully Peebles and Bambam are working up a good appetite!
I hope so! Ill also have a bit of a distraction from them tomorrow since I need to help my mum get a cat to the vet tomorrow for a check up. She was spade then ended up getting an infection and had to be given antibiotics and some form of iodine to clean the wound but shes doing much better now!
Aww, poor kitty! Yeah, at least that will be some distraction. Hopefully the vet is happy with your cat’s progress in healing.
Lol she’s probably not sure, herself.
Yeah lol. Might try poping again at some point but so far ive gotten nothing maybe due to my in experience? Might wait for them both to get some size first so for now these names are to stay! I also didnt even attempt to pop bambam due to how small they are I just dont want to risk hurting them. I might use their next sheds for sexing them.
No harm at all in waiting to determine sex. Have you tried using a light? It works, and you can’t hurt the babies this way. It’s noninvasive. (Well, I guess you could squeeze them to hard while holding them, but that isn’t likely, right?)
With Amel morphs, it’s often possible to sex them by shiny a bright light through the body wall near their vent. Males’ hemipenes are visible as two redder/darker lines (one on each side of the midline) extending for several scales between the cloaca and the tail tip. Depending upon the hatchling’s size, it’s about 3 mm. Females may have the red coloring visible, but if they do it only goes for about 2-3 scales. You can use the light you used for candling eggs. Hold it so that it’s at about perpendicular to you.
Yeah I also tried doing that but couldnt see much either.
Edit: Ill be trying to feed them again today so ill probably try doing that again after they’ve hopefully eaten.
I managed to find these two coconut hides. Would they be better or should I keep the hides they are already in?
I’d say why not both? Keep the ones they’re in and give them the coconut hides, to see which they like. You can never have too many hides, imo.
Yeah I think ill do that then! Should i keep the warm hide the same or use the coconut for rhe warm hide?
