This is a calibee and firefly. Sorry first time using the forum I could not load a proper image I had to cut and paste. Still learning how to use it as well lol

It’s ok, we all have to learn at some point. As far as the lock goes it’s not a great lock but I would defiantly mark it down as a lock but with a question mark next to it, just because there is the chance that it wasn’t successful.

Ah good point. I’ll mark that it was not the greatest of locks

I agree. This would be marked off as a lock, but do continue pairing them.

Very nice looking calibee. High expression calico and spider are such neat little guys.
As a heads up with breeding spiders. Even if the parent doesn’t have an apparent wobble, the offspring still can. And you won’t know the severity until they hatch out.
Sometimes it can take a little bit for them to get their bearings and the wobble can lessen after a while. I held back the worst wobbler I hatched and now it’s hard to see after she gained some muscle and coordination.

Thank you for the response as well as giving me confidence in what I am trying here. I have not split them up yet as I had to go to work and still looked like that before leaving. She has high expectations of calico but her pastel has faded on her dorsal but her head and neck still has good expression of it. Only question I have now is when I get home and they are no longer locked should I split him for the month or three days just to feed her. Cause her schedule is tomorrow for feeding

I would separate and feed them. Give the male a bit of time and then pair them again. Once a month is usually fine. I wouldn’t do more than every 2 weeks to avoid stressing them out. I usually only have them together for 48 hours and they’re usually done doing the deed by then anyway. Even on the uhm… Heavy endurance pairings.

Heavy endurance lol

Well I got home and they are locked again and I say again cause they are in a different spot. I’m pretty sure this time is a full lock.

That’s good. So yeah just leave them alone until they aren’t locked and the go ahead and separate the male. Locks can last a while, sometime 48+ hours so just wait until they decide they are done.

Is it normal for the female to refuse food after separating them. Its not her normal behaviour she usually has a very driven food response

Yeah. Pretty normal, especially if it was just after separation and she’s a shyer girl. Breeding can be stressful on either snake.

As females get closer to ovulation and egg laying many of them will also stop eating.

I am not to sure here I think she is building but she’s been moving to the hot side every now and then I find her next to her water bowl she did eat on Tuesday I’m getting ready to pair them again next weekend just wondering what you guys think. She also has not pooped since last feeding.

Well she does look like there’s something in there. So I’d say she is building follicles.

Well here is an update she is going into shed I was going to pair again but thought best not while going into shed. Iv noticed that she has pushed all the substrate out of that spot she is in and rarely if ever leaves that spot iv also noticed that she has brighter tones like her dorsal being a richer brown. While in shed. I’m not getting my hopes up but I think I should start counting after the shed or is there something els I should look for?

She’s so pretty!

So you can start counting down 30 days as soon as she sheds, and in 30 days you should hopefully have a nice clutch of eggs!

I’m confused on this girl for a whole month after locking this girl sat on the warm spot. She would not move now she’s moving and eat last night. I’m wondering if I should pair them again this month or not
