My southern black widow passed away today. She laid her egg sac and stopped eating and just guarded her blank egg sac. Im a bit bummed out because i don’t or won’t have offspring from her to carry on her line. I haven’t removed her or her egg sac on the very slim chance that her eggs are viable. Losing one of my babies always hurts even if it was just a spider, to me she wasn’t just a spider she was my family that i loved every bit as much as any of my family.

I’m so sorry. 
She wasn’t “just a spider,” she was a beautiful and well-loved pet, and it’s totally understandable that you’d mourn her passing. I know you gave her the best life possible while she was with you, so I hope you can take some solace in that. And who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky and get some babies from the sac.
Very sorry for your loss. Black widows are amazing spiders.
