My Little Noodle

My Mystic Potion ball python has refused to eat since July. We gave him a big rat because that was all the place we go to had. He ate it but now hes refusing to eat any time we have tried to feed him. They are medium sized fancy mice. Is this normal? We havent had any issues since we bought him back in 2023 when he was a baby. Hes still shedding without issues and hes very lively.

There could be a few reasons for it.

Males are prone to refusing food during breeding season and this time of year.

Another could be that he is self regulating his weight. If he’s a chunky boy they will also sometimes fast because they know there’s no need to eat.

And lastly… Sometimes they get picky and that rat was very interesting for him instead of the mice he usually eats.

I would double check his temps and humidity just in case. But feel free to post a couple of photos so we can see how his body condition looks as well.

As long as he’s not loosing weight quickly he should be fine. This sort of thing happens. If he does start acting oddly or looses 10% or more of his body weight quickly then I would recommend hitting up a vet to make sure there isn’t another reason like URI or parasites.
