I have had my pac man for almost 2 years. Everything has been good up until about 2 1/2 months ago, he completely stopped eating. This last week I have noticed that he stays 90% of the time in his water dish. Sadly I am rural and there are no reptile vet anywhere near me. Please any advice would help.
What is the temps in his enclosure? What and how often are you feeding him? He looks pretty good in my eyes appearance wise, at least I don’t notice anything obviously off or wrong with him.
I’ve never kept pacman frogs but I know my male (raised from a froglet and is over a year old now) Gulf Coast toad will eat less frequently during the colder months and hide in his dig spot for longer periods. This might be whats going on with your pacman especially if you live in a colder climate.
I live in Texas, so not so cold, sadly. Warm end is about 78-80. Cool end is about 74-76. He usually ate about 3 worms a week. I would also substitute crickets, super worms, or horn worms from time to time.
Don’t feel guilty or badly. I had 2 Pac-Man frogs at a couple of different times that lived relatively short periods of times. I read somewhere that inferior breeding quality? I believe? makes for unhealthy frogs in the long run. If I am nuts
someone please correct me. But this makes me feel better about my failures. Supposedly these little guys are fragile to begin with.
Hopefully your fella will begin eating again soon. I’m in no way inferring that he won’t. I am just saying don’t beat yourself up if he doesn’t make a turnaround.
Just curious. Where did your frog come from?
I got him at an exotic pet shop in Houston. S&S Exotics. He’s been pretty great for me, as he was my first experience with amphibians/ reptiles.
Ok I was thinking maybe Petco or somewhere like that. I suppose just keep a clean water dish for him to soak in like you have been doing and keep offering him food as you have been. He looks like he is still healthy. If he wants to eat he will.
Also it might be worth it to give that pet shop a call? Maybe someone there could shed some light? Imho you have done well with your little fella. I couldn’t keep mine alive beyond a year….I wish the very best of luck to you. Keep updating here. I would really like to see how your little fella does…… ![]()
Get a bigger container and soak him in warm water . Make the water deep enough that he has to stretch out a little. Make him swim / walk around in the water for a bit . Might just need to get his gut moving . Not to deep and keep and eye on him
