My season started over the weekend

Oligodon purpurascens - Mainland brown phase x Tioman Island red phase

Because apparently 2.2.5 means I have a dearth of stabby-mouth snakes :dagger: :dagger: :snake:

Congratulations Travis!!! I’m not good with Latin names. I’m going to take a calculated guess and say we are talking about kurki? Never mind says in the tags lol!

They are both :fire:, but that bottom one is absolutely gorgeous Travis.

He is a cantankerous little brat! Always watching when I come into the snake room but if I dare to open his door he rises up, S-curves, and mouth gapes to let me know just how much he hates me

Aww the little cutie just wants some kisses, don’t be shy
Honestly though, he is pretty enough to put up with his attitude.

This is the first I’ve heard of kukri-snakes…why are they called that?

They have some rather unique dentition to them - a trio of enlarged back teeth - that are shaped somewhat like the the Indian kukri dagger

These teeth are primarily used to open eggs which are their primary food item however, there is also some interesting research that shows the snakes will use these teeth to “sideswipe” cut into very large prey items and then feed on their internal organs
