New to this so please be kind and patient. There is a wealth of knowledge here and I’m just learning the genes and morphs (it’s a LOT). Here is my list of snakes I have I would like to know what I should pair together to get some fun stuff. I’m just hobby breeding for fun btw. I have a these males Aztec/Keywest Het Hypo VPI 66%Anery. And a male pink panther pastel motley jungle Het T positive.
The females I have are a Het Hypo VPI.(still a bit to small) An Anery (she’s ready) A pink panther pastel Het T positive. (She’s ready) and a Jungle Hypo (but young as well. Let me know which way to go. I’d like to breed my males with my two ready females get something fun then hold a male back to breed to one or both of my not ready yet females
Likely to be an unpopular opinion for you but… Entirely too much of this hobby seems to run on the MLM mindset that you HAVE to breed to be a “real” keeper and this just encourages people to breed without putting real thought into it
My strong recommendation to you would be to become significantly more versed in what your morphs are, how they are inherited, what combos you could make, and how to properly identify them. After that, think about how you are going to to care for all of the babies you produce, how you will house them, how you will feed them, and how you will get rid of all the ones that you do not want to keep (and “I will just put them on MM and they will sell no problem” is not the correct answer)
I am not saying all of this to be a jerk. This is coming from my multiple decades of being in this hobby. I also freely admit that I do breed some of my animals. However, I have answered all these questions for myself and I know my limits and my boundaries
There is absolutely nothing wrong with going slow and taking your time. Learn your animals. Become a ‘student of the serpent’. After that, then think about whether or not you want to breed
I completely agree! I have a market to move babies to (retail world). I’m just simply asking if there is something possible in my collection that I’m not aware of. As I said I’m not a breeder but one day would like to just asking the question to learn a bit more I guess is why I’m asking about the possibilities of my morphs.
As Travis pointed out, lockdown your understanding of inheritance first. Boas are complicated because we have so many genes that do the same thing, but are not compatible with each other.
Keep your T+ away from your VPI stuff. If it’s correctly labeled and do truly have two different lines they won’t be compatible.
Hypo is incomplete dominant. It is visually present or not. When you say Het Hypo, is the animal visually Hypo? If it is not, then there is no Hypo in that animal.
If it were me, I’d pair the 66% Het Anery male to the Anery female and try to pin down if the animal is truly Het Anery. Regardless you’d make double het Snow Glow babies. For the other pairing put the two T+ animals together.
