Hi all! I’ve bred balls in the past but sold all my snakes when covid hit. Looking to get back in to make a couple keepers for me. Not looking to make a business out of it, just breed a couple clutches to keep a few cool ones but I will need to sell all the ones I’m not keeping so they need to be desirable traits. I have enough money for a couple females and one good male. I’m interested in Pied for myself, so I want one of them to be visual Pied. I like Yellow Belly, Orange Dream, Clown, and Enchi.
My questions are who should be the visual Pied and which other combos should the rest be?
Obviously if I’m giving him to 3-4 females the male needs to be powerful. I have a friend who has an Orange Dream Pied 100% Het Clown 100% Het Hypo Male for sale. What could be some cool combos with this? Thanks!
That male could be pretty useful for a nice triple recessive project. The downside is just the risk of possible hets in offspring.
With OD on the table genes like enchi and fire can cause some extra pop.
Ideally with that particular male you would want to look at females that are visual for at least one of the hets the male has. And ideally het for pied. That way you’ll be guaranteed to have at least 2 of the hets.
So something like a hypo female double het pied, clown. Can be a good female to start. Heck if you can find a hypo clown het pied for a good price then even better.
Otherwise I always like to look for an allelic combo to work into projects so that the offspring are guaranteed to have at least one gene. Say a freeway or highway for YB complex offspring. The only complex I would stay away from with that male would be BEL. Blue eye Lucy Pieds are prone to having bead eye/microphthalmia.
The easiest thing to do would be plugging in the male’s genes into MorphMarket’s search engine with the availability listed as any. You can opt to have the genes shown as both het/hom as well so you can see visual combos of any gene. See what the cool ones you like are made of and look for the parts your male isn’t carrying.
Making sure that what you are producing is what YOU want is the biggest part of it.
