Need help with Humidity

I just got my first BCI and I’m worried about not knowing if the humidity in the enclosure is too high or too low. I Have 2 Govee hygrometers and 2 of these chesper round ones. When I put them in the calibration kit they are more or less the same. But when they are side by side laying on the substrate they are very different. Also, when I have the Govee laying down vs standing up in literally the same exact spot, at the same exact time, the humidity shows a major difference. I don’t know how to best figure out the true humidity. I’m worried of screwing up and causing either scale rot or a respiratory infection. Any help on where to place them in the enclosure is appreciated.

The sensor area of the individual devices will also affect the readings. The govee I have is a different model, but it has a small opening to read the humidity. If that is facing the bedding the humidity will read higher since it’s got more contact.

If the two are reading nearly the same in one position then I would go with that as the more accurate read. Otherwise I would average out between the two as the humidity.

I personally haven’t worked with boas much… So I could be wrong and hopefully someone else chimes in…But as long as you’re maintaining a decent humidity in a moist hide then you might be okay even if the rest of the habitat isn’t quite right

These are meant to be setting/mounted vertically, that’s why you’re having issues. When you have them laying on the substrate, as @armiyana said, it will read higher because the sensor is essentially reading the humidity between itself and the substrate, not in the enclosure air.

I’d say mount the smaller ones to the walls of the enclosure, one on each side, to give a good overall humidity reading. As Christina also mentioned, you can average out the readings to get a good baseline.

Ive recently invested in a handheld humidity meter. They are not too expensive, unlike uv readers. It’s helped me feel more sure that what my stats are saying is correct. If you read the directions and store/use them right, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about the device becoming unreliable. It’s essentially a temp gun for humidity.
