Needs help sexing my new baby hognose

Hello, this is my first time posting, pardon me if I happen to do anything wrong!

Please check for me if this is a male or female hognose. I have this baby hognose sold to me as a female, I’m new to sexing babies so I wanted to make sure the shop advertised to me right. Idk how to pop or probe. The tail is a littleeee long that made me doubt, but I’ve heard there are long-tailed female hog.
Tysm in advance!

Welcome to the community! That’s a cute little one you have there. Looks female to me also but I could certainly be wrong. If you want, once it sheds you can get the shed tested to know for certain.

If you want to be empirical about it, you can count the number of scale rows under the tail, between the cloaca and the tail tip (the subcaudal scales). This is considerably easier with a loupe, or you may be able to take a clear photo and count on that and avoid the squirming.

If there are more than 40 rows, it is a male; if there are fewer than 37 rows, it is a female. In between may be questionable. This is how I do it (and I count twice, on two occasions separated by a little time), just so I’m certain.

A straight shot would help but I third it’s female.

Imo looks like a little girl! Could be a short tailed boy but most likely it’s a girl
