I can’t find the chutney so do I have to chutney-ify them myself? Or would simply scenting the pinks work as well? I’m one of those anti-doing any animal death dealings myself under all circumstances unless it’s a state of emergency, plus I don’t mind keeping an anole or three for scenting some food, if anything it could be a bit more convenient for me since I could save some money. I have a local pet store that usually has live anoles. I’ll look into getting some and in the meantime try boiled pinks this weekend if they refuse again

Reptilinks sells liquified anole juice. Very expensive. You may be able to get it through Chewy too, I think.

And yeah, the chutney is made from euthanized anoles. I absolutely hate doing it, but…

You couid try plastering shed anole skin onto a pink, if that pet store will give you some.

Cuban anoles or Carolina anoles or other?

Carolinas, I’m pretty sure

I’ll try the shed trick and boiled pinks first, then some scenting from a live anole. If all fails I’ll cop some money on some juice to scent them with or bottom line, force them to take a pink head or xs pink

I just syringed Carnivore Critical Care into a bunch of stubborn jerks. There’s no end to the unpleasant ways we can keep these guys alive until they figure things out!

this is such a good idea! I’m sure it eliminates the worry about how fragile they are during force feeding too, I had a cousin who took in a rescue rat snake who had her jaw break during a force feeding gone wrong, poor thing didn’t survive even after surgery and treatments

Jamming a tube down a tiny throat comes with its own set of injury anxieties. But I’m inept at force feeding. And they get decent growth off the stuff.

If anyone want the absolute BEST update I could give on Miss Priss, she passed the egg all on her own! I woke up after worrying since she’d been in shed and more lethargic lately, but today she seemed a lot better and had shed! Upon checking her egg bulge, it was completely gone! I thought I was crazy, started tearing her rack apart, and I wasn’t! She already seems a lot more social again, between finally getting this thing out of her and having just shed. I’ll warm up a nice large mouse for her today since I didn’t get to feed her Saturday. I bet it’ll be nice getting back to adult mice for her instead of smaller meals! She’s still practically the same weight at 400g though

Fantastic! Best possible outcome.

I also tried feeding babies again, stripe took her second meal and the ultra masque (once again) got it down about half way before spitting it out again. I tried a room temperature pink this time like when I feed their mom, and at least they seemed infinitely more interested, I wonder if they inherited her preferences lol!

Boy oh boy has this one gotten NEON red, I’m talking maraschino cherry red! My camera can’t pick it up under any lighting even! This picture absolutely puts him to shame but it’s already such a shift from the first picture I posted of him here

A very polite picture of the stripe baby, who is now 8g! She originally hatched at only 4. For only taking two meals so far, I’m still happy with her progress, she’s already one of the sweetest snakes I’ve owned, and I thought she’d start getting wiggly like her siblings

And the little anery masque ultra who’s the biggest stinker out of all three, doesn’t eat, love to try and escape his tote when I open it, and absolute wiggliest

In this picture you can’t see it, but he has a near-white tongue that I’m very fond of

Spoiler alert: kind of gross. I also wanted opinions on this baby that unfortunately was dead in the egg, even the eyes are white on this baby, and it was completely solid white, which was absolutely beautiful. If anything, I just wanted to share even if nobody has input on what it could be, since I’m finally not bitter anymore about the babies who didn’t make it

4g to 8g off two meals is amazing!

Yeah, you see some funky stuff in dead eggs. It’s clear from what I’ve seen that full pigment development and migration happens sort of late in incubation.

Update: the buggers are still finicky as I’ll get out for food, so carnivore care is currently on the way. Thankfully they haven’t lost any grams yet and still have good looking body condition. The masque anery stripe is frequently taking larger meals every other week instead of a smaller one every week (hoping to move her to weekly asap)

Final egg still seems alright, unfortunately I don’t see any movement, which makes me nervous, but then again, even in the eggs that did survive last round, I couldn’t see any movement in them either. I’ve also incubated this egg as low at 74 (for one night) and it’s been bumped up to 79 now that I’ve found a sweet spot for setting the egg bin. I’m thinking it’s a twin egg, given there’s two distinct dark spots in it. I’m assuming this egg will go FAR longer in the incubator given I started it cool, and am continuing to incubate it slightly cool, especially since I’m not seeing any day 54 pips like last time.

The fluid inside the egg seems very ‘loose’ though, if that makes sense, like there’s a small amount of air inside the egg that’s making the fluid inside all jiggly. Should this be a concern? I saw this with one or two of the other corn eggs, which I forgot if they were ones that made it or not, but haven’t seen this with BP eggs before

I’m also sneaking in a picture of my only pairing for ball pythons this year, who have had one brief lock so far. GHI pinstripe x calico firefly yb cypress. Arby (ghi pin) absolutely shoots out just like Erlen (calico firefly yb cypress) and unfortunately ran Erlen right over this time. Thankfully they’re both very easygoing. Hoping for fire cypress pin stuff

I always try to remind myself that problem feeder corns aren’t typically defective. They’re just a problem for me! I try to remember that the number of wild hatchling corns that are looking for dead baby mice to eat is close to zero.

Fingers crossed for the BP pairing!

Last egg still seems to have very ‘loose’ liquid which continues to worry me slightly. Now it seems to have gotten a small balding spot on the very bottom, I remember adding some water to the bottom of the perlite but not enough to cause a wet spot by any means, especially with how dry my incubator was running prior. I’m wondering if this is a sign of it getting close to hatching or if I just have my hopes up. The splotch at the bottom seems super tiny for a nearly developed baby, though, which also has me worried. I’m hoping what I’m going through is mostly paranoia after the last batch went like they did, this time I took out the operator error with the incubator running too hot! This time things should go right, hopefully

I’ve had perfect looking eggs that never hatched and moldy monsters that produced perfect hatchlings.

good news is that carnivore care seems to be working well! But I have some bad news for those still following this post, I don’t have a picture with as difficult as it is to get a picture of given I don’t want to be handling a delicate baby snake with only one hand for the most part, the little ultra anery masque seems to have a lot of fluid buildup in it’s lower third. I’m hoping it’s just a small impaction that can be solved with some warm baths and massaging, but it seems very sudden and very severe which is a major concern for me. Vet will be scheduled if this little guy doesn’t show any improvement, hoping he’ll pull through.
