Finally got around to ordering stuff to do a diy background for my next bioactive build. Definitely dreading the next step of trimming and then using silicon to get the substrate mix to stick, but definitely excited for the finished product.
The two upright cork rounds are going to be used for some plants I’ve got set aside growing currently. Super excited, I had to have my wife help with the orientation of everything as my creative brain is a little slow sometimes. Super excited for this to come together!
@ghoulishcresties any recommendations or critiques? I know you’ve done a handful. I think @foxreptile you have as well, right?
I wouldn’t use silicone myself, but I know many have. It’s a pain to get off if you ever need to change anything.
I use gorilla glue and then add coco fibre etc on.
Looking good so far though! The cork for plants is what I did too, defo works well!! X
What do you plan to use it for? Looking really good! And I agree with @ghoulishcresties that gorilla glue is better than silicon, IMO of course
See, I had thought about using the gorilla glue, but i ordered a complete kit (silicon to put on the glass before the sprayfoam, and then silicon on top of the spray foam before putting the substrate mix. Got it from neherp, as they have a full guide/tutorial and have some good quality info on there from what I’ve found.
and @logar it’s kind of a surprise… she’s coming on Thursday, so keep an eye out and I’ll be letting everyone know when she arrives!
ooo it looks so good already! Can’t wait to see the finished product!
Congratulations on the new arrival @nswilkerson1! Whatever it is??? Lol! Your DIY enclosure is going to look amazing as well! I think any DIY means more than anything purchased pre made!
My only concern is having the cork tube so close to the top … But that depends on what your putting in there and if it’s a mesh roof or not.
I’ve found cresties bop / scrape their head on the top, hurting themselves when it’s so high up. I have dinner dumb creatures
Can’t wait to see the final thing… And what goes in
I think there’s a little more space than it looks like, since it’s a round, the back side of it dips down creating a 2-3” gap “ledge” where they can go, along with a tunnel inside for them to go in. It’s got a plastic mesh top, like a very thick plastic, not as thin and flexible as the exo-terra enclosures. The high spot of the round is something like a 1/2” or less from the top. So let’s hope I don’t have any issues with someone trying to squish themselves in there!
Is it a snake ? It a lizard ?
Where did you get the enclosure? I haven’t seen many like it
This one I got secondhand, but its a matching one to my male Gargoyle gecko. its the Petsmart Thrive brand. I think it’s roughly 20 gallons from what i remember.
Thrive Tropical Reptile Vertical Hexagon Terrarium -20 Gallon | reptile Terrariums | PetSmart
slightly smaller Dim’s than the exo-terra that most usually use, but something different than the standard square enclosures.
Not a snake, for now anyway. A hognose is on my list of things to get eventually, but I actually sold a few of my Ball Pythons to pay for this one.
is it a satanic leaf tail? pied Henkeli?
I just saw one of these hexagonal tanks at the chain pet store when I went for crickets yesterday. I think my mom could see the hearts in my eyes, because she immediately said “NOPE, no more animals while you live under my roof!”
Give her that sad puppy dog eyes look and see if she will budge……
I’ve even showed her cute CRESTIE puppy dog eyes and NOTHIN!
She’s a tough nut to crack!
Well if I was your mom and you lived with me you could have ALL THE REPTILES you wanted! So you show her this post! Lol!
You know Christmas is coming up …
“Moooooooom the nice lady on morph market will let me have ALL THE CRITTERS”
