Finally got around to ordering stuff to do a diy background for my next bioactive build. Definitely dreading the next step of trimming and then using silicon to get the substrate mix to stick, but definitely excited for the finished product.
The two upright cork rounds are going to be used for some plants I’ve got set aside growing currently. Super excited, I had to have my wife help with the orientation of everything as my creative brain is a little slow sometimes. Super excited for this to come together!
I wouldn’t use silicone myself, but I know many have. It’s a pain to get off if you ever need to change anything.
I use gorilla glue and then add coco fibre etc on.
Looking good so far though! The cork for plants is what I did too, defo works well!! X
See, I had thought about using the gorilla glue, but i ordered a complete kit (silicon to put on the glass before the sprayfoam, and then silicon on top of the spray foam before putting the substrate mix. Got it from neherp, as they have a full guide/tutorial and have some good quality info on there from what I’ve found.

Congratulations on the new arrival @nswilkerson1! Whatever it is??? Lol! Your DIY enclosure is going to look amazing as well! I think any DIY means more than anything purchased pre made!
I think there’s a little more space than it looks like, since it’s a round, the back side of it dips down creating a 2-3” gap “ledge” where they can go, along with a tunnel inside for them to go in. It’s got a plastic mesh top, like a very thick plastic, not as thin and flexible as the exo-terra enclosures. The high spot of the round is something like a 1/2” or less from the top. So let’s hope I don’t have any issues with someone trying to squish themselves in there!

slightly smaller Dim’s than the exo-terra that most usually use, but something different than the standard square enclosures.
I just saw one of these hexagonal tanks at the chain pet store when I went for crickets yesterday. I think my mom could see the hearts in my eyes, because she immediately said “NOPE, no more animals while you live under my roof!”
