My husband and I have a 10 year old female Ball Python on the way. We already have one BP(2 years old) and one black and white Tegu. We got our snake first so we didn’t quarantine her (we were first time snake owners who shamefully overlooked any sort of quarantine), but now with already having 2 reptiles we know we need to quarantine. What are suggestions on tub size for her quarantine time? She weighs 2000 grams for reference. We just want to make sure she is healthy and of course want to do it the right way. Any other suggestions for quarantine are also welcome:)
You could use 33qt storage bin or larger. This is for temporary use, so you dont need to go extremely larger. Ezy storage makes bins thst i like to use, Target carries them). Just get the shorter ones as they will have more surface area for it. Better to ues paper towels, this way you can see any mites better. You can get an adjustable unber tank heat pad from Amazon. Just make sure it is setup and everything adjusted before using it . Just need to out 1/4" holes along the top sides, but only about half way across. If more are needed, you can add some to the lid on the same side thst the other holes are at. Inspace then 1in apart.
The only other thing I do is using a product to treat the tub and paper towels for potential mites. Not the snake unless I find any and that’s a different product. I use Ardap. Its fairly mild but do not use it on the snake. I have avoided mites in my collection this way.
The product will kill any wandering mites so you will see if there are any on the paper towels and hopefully they wont live to get to other snakes.
See the video below for instructions. I don’t use the olive oil in the video though.
I was told here that’s a little risky unless its in very small amounts.
