Hello I am new to this whole thing and am looking to get a crested geko and put him in my 18x18x30. Is that a good sized tank and what should I get to supply it so it lives a happy life.
I assume those measurements are in inches, in which case it’s just a bit over minimum, so that’s good! There are a lot of good care guides around, i’d advise reading a few different ones to get an idea of what is needed, though some of them are a bit outdated when it comes to water bowls and temperatures.
Generally you’re gonna need a moisture retaining substrate, a water bowl, a food bowl, and tons of stuff for the gecko to climb on and in. You’ll also need some kind of mister, either a misting system, or simply a hand mister.
Heating is needed if your home gets below 22c/72f during the day a lot, though I would recommend keeping them a bit warmer if possible, they do better between 24c/75f-28c/82f in my experience. 22-28c or 72-82f is considered safe for them, but they can do fine as low as 18c/65f and as high as 30c/86f as long as it’s temporarily i.e during the night/day, and it isn’t too often.
As for lighting, they need some kind of day/night cycle. You can either give them UVB, LEDs, or simply rely on the natural lighting in the room, it’s just important that they get something.
UVB isn’t necessary, but it is beneficial if done correctly.
Tysm for the info I will look into those stuff for my new tank
