A day makes a heck of a difference!!! Just look at how much better everything looks already:
Wow Jess! That truly is a BIG difference! Mr Cuddles is one brave little dude. It’s all that “Mom” time you have spent with him and of course the vet helped a bit!
I’m glad to see that encouraging picture!
Taking him out and seeing that was just the best! I was worried he might have some significant tissue injury, but with how quickly the swelling has dissipated and the fact that there’s not any new discoloration, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem. Obviously I’ll still be keeping an eye on him until he’s 100%, but I feel like I can actually relax a little now.
That’s got to be a great feeling Jess! I had a tragedy with my little GBK girl that I have not shared here yet but needless to say she was not as fortunate as Mr Cuddles……
I am so sorry to hear about your girl. Sometimes keeping animals is awful, especially trying to protect them from getting themselves into life-threatening predicaments. Unfortunately sometimes it’s just not a success.
Yep. I’m too ashamed to post suffice it to say……
That was my worry with this story and why I was very sparse with info at first (and even now) because it hurts enough when you know it might’ve been entirely preventable, you don’t really want to have to open yourself to criticism.
I totally get it. Even if people don’t say it you don’t know what they might be thinking! However I don’t think anyone here would be that way at all. But I am like you. I feel it could have been preventable…. But anyhoo! Mr Cuddles is on the mend and that’s the main thing!
Wow! Well done on the bounce-back, Mr. Cuddles! (Can I say, what a great name for a snake.) His bones must be made of rubber, I’m in awe.
Crossing my fingers his recovery continues to be positive.
It’s got quite the back story to it!
He was seized by police as an abandonment/neglect case, and the officer in charge of him liked to give the name “Cuddles” to snakes because it makes people who might be wary see them differently. The officer posted about him in a group on Facebook for animal rescuers, and some friends who do canine rescue contacted me with his info and asked if I’d be interested. I decided to keep his name as it was, because it was a big part of his story.
Awwwww what a sweet sweet story!
Oh gosh, what a tale! I’m so glad that Mr. Cuddles (great backstory!) is recovering well so far! You must be so relieved, Jess. They really can get themselves into trouble. He’s fortunate to have you to help get him out of it.
@caron, I’m so sorry to hear you had a tragedy.
Hugs and thoughts and prayers for Mr. Cuddles, Jess, and Caron.
Thank you dear friend.
Oh my gosh was a crazy story! He looks so much better now. And i totally get it, i felt pretty darn bad when posting about Leo’s face even though it wasn’t near as significant. It’s just so easy for us to beat ourselves up but things happen and he wouldn’t be doing near as well now had you not acted as quickly as you did. He’s a gorgeous boy, I’m happy he’s okay.
Checked in on Cuddles this morning and he’s still doing great! It actually took me a moment to find the injured area. He gets his second ceftaz injection tonight, but we’re well on the mend.
I know I told the story of his name, but I figured I’d pull some photos out of the vault to show exactly how disturbing the situation he came from was. I don’t know if his enclosure had ever been cleaned in the time he’d been with his previous owner before he was impounded. The enclosure itself was so bad I had to wear a respirator to clean it out. It took me hours just to get all the crust off that water dish.
Whoa. I’m so glad you have him now – poor Cuddles, that’s a nightmare enclosure. :C
I’m glad he continues to do so well now!
Oh Jess look at all that shed too! That’s just sickening to look at so I can’t fathom how he felt to live in that filth! Now I can really understand why you so upset even more!
I am sooooooooo glad you have him now Jess! And no one can tell me he doesn’t know how much you love him! As I said before, he does!!!
The crazy part was despite all that filth in his cage, he was only minorly underweight and had absolutely no respiratory or other health issues. He’s a strong boy.
That was the thing that shocked me the most, I think. It showed just how long he’d been in there without a clean out. That was just what was atop the pile, too. Everything under that top layer of aspen was just rotting away. The things some people do to innocent animals makes me ill.
You better believe it makes me ill as well! I have ZERO tolerance for that kind of abuse or animal abuse PERIOD!
Oh, gosh, the poor thing! All those sheds are truly shocking. He’s so fortunate to have made his way to suck a caring home from such a terrible situation. Especially considering that his nutrition was far from what it should be, how long must it have taken for all of that? And the human just left it all! And the poor snake has so sweet, despite all of that.
Mr. Cuddles is a very lucky fellow.
