Now that’s a new one! ![]()
Some more housies for our collective enjoyment! Both Andromeda and Chester are fixin’ to shed soon. I love how blue makes them both look.
Nothing important, just a pretty, pretty girl! We finally ordered adult enclosures for both her and Chester, and I’m excited to build their bioactive (as well as a third male-sized enclosure we don’t have anyone for yet
)
Oh, she really is lovely! I have admired babies of this morph when I’m browsing the ads for housies. I don’t think I’ve seen an adult. Very pretty indeed! ![]()
Just got updated pictures this morning of my two Cape breeder girls! Both KZN red (50%) and T- albino. Gosh, they’re gorgeous. Spitfire (first picture) is gravid again and hopefully due to lay in the next couple of weeks, and Persimmon laid 4 clutches for me last year so I’m just feeding and letting her recover this year. She might be gravid, but if she is, it’s last year’s sperm or slugs lol, since I have not re-paired her.
Love both of these girls. Spitfire will be going to a good friend of mine once she lays this first set of eggs, so that I can get a wild type or hypo female.
They are both so pretty!
Gotta confess, I find this aspect of house snake breeding downright stupefying!
Love these girls!
What utter beauties. I’m capitvated by the subtle difference in their shades. How did you decide which one of these two ladies to let go of?
There’s a lot of variability in blue-eyes in terms of how white/taupe/grey they are, and I think I lucked out – she’s such a beautiful dove grey shade and her belly is so white.
If – big if – I end up breeding, I’m hoping to eventually get a grandchild from her who’s T- albino blue-eye, and they are white, white snakes.
Ultimately I made my decision based on both personality and production. Persimmon laid 4 clutches last year and recovered beautifully, so she’s proven to me she’s a healthy breeder - Spitfire only laid one clutch last year so I didn’t have as much chance to evaluate her. Persimmon is also a calmer snake and since I breed for pet keepers primarily, that matters to me. So I decided on selling Spitfire! But she’s going to a close friend and I’ll still get updates on her, which is going to be amazing.
That’s a sensible equation! I’m surprised how infrequently I see breeding for temperament discussed, it’s nice to see it as a factor.
And of course you know we’ll always love to hear the Spitfire updates when you get them too. She’s a charmer. <3
Agreed! That’s definitely a part of what I do. Most of these animals will be pets. If they’re miserable creatures to handle, they’re much less likely to make people happy, which means they’re much more likely to end up less than well cared for. I do believe that they can all be taught to accept handling, with proper patience. But some come right out of the egg curious and friendly, and it does seem to run in families.
Yay! Do you have to do heavy calcium supplementing for the prolific females?
Good job, Spitfire! Congratulations to her and to you, @inspirationexotics! ![]()
I haven’t yet done any supplementing as they’re pretty good about recovering and I haven’t had any issues with less calcified eggs, but honestly it’s probably a good idea and I think I’ll add some calcium to the mouse I offer her tonight. Thanks for the suggestion!!
Sounds good. You’re welcome. ![]()
Yeaa Spitfire! Good job, mama!
EGGIES! Good job, Mama snek!
And I owe this thread some pics! So have another Sangfroid Sighting, again at night. I guess they’re all night pics because that’s when he comes out on his own.

snekbutt.
Congratulations to Mama Snek! Hello, Sangfroid. You’re looking spiffy in your pajamas. ![]()
