Long story…bought a moving sale…9 huge cages…lights…pads…hides…dishes. 4 ball pythons. I was jarred when I 1st see her…has to be a Lesser to Lesser…eyes are soooo popped its painful. She is THE Best snake ever…Named her Falkor. Has a “soul” about her…anyway…Im a boa person but a snake expert…& she is blind from what I can tell. Had my friend who owns the pet store here & used to breed balls come see her too…she agrees.
Thats a beautiful BEL
Well she is paper white… but bad genes with the eyes…doesn’t matter she cant help it…she is an angel
I made her a hammock! Outta cotton rope
She hangs on ot every night since I got her all set up
I’d say yeah, most likely a super lesser/butter.
The previous owner didn’t know?
If it was my noodle, I’d make a habit of checking the eyes every now and then just in case. Just in the off chance it’s a different defect than the lesser/butter genetics. But that would really only be on a rescue like this where I don’t know the history. After a while it will be less of an issue, but at least during the first few months, I would keep track of things. Something about the way the reds get picked up in the photo bothers me…
Edit- someone else posted on your duplicate thread. Since someone else also thinks maybe the eyes don’t quite look right, I second possibly doing a vet checkup.
Bug eyes don’t necessarily mean blind, Blind is an absolute statement, why do you say blind. Just because of the whats called ‘bug’ eyes or something else?
Its common with super lessers like tiny ‘pin’ eyes in lesser pieds. check MorphMarket pictures. its common.
Opppss…p9sted this twice…cause I didnt think it did the 1st time…
She really might need a vet visit for those
I was wondering about that too. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought there looks like maybe something else.
The red in the camera looks off. On their duplicate thread I mentioned watching the eyes for changes for a bit. But if you’re also seeing that and recommending a vet visit then I second that.
I agree, I would worry about her being in pain. I know reptiles tend to hide pain/illness, so you never know.
Yeah. A birth defect making them that swollen is unlikely. I have only seen bug eyes even close to that in colubrids, never a ball python. It is almost like fluid buildup that could lead to rupturing. A vet visit is definitely needed.
I thought super lessers/butters had issues with bug eyes?
I’ve seen this before with another super butter/lesser that a breeder I worked for owned, but it didn’t have any apparent issues.
When I 1st got her she had a half stuck cap on one of them. I treated her eyes with Muro( topical antibiotic) just to help…couldn’t hurt. She shed right after that…completely…eye caps came off fine. The previous owner says she has looked like that since he got her from a pet store. He had her for 18ish months. But yeah her eyes weird me out… I am going to take her to the vet.
@lumpy thought it was not fluid build up but a some times normal side effect of some super lessers, like the tiny pin eyes in lesser pieds.
Also we seem to have two identical threads running?
Nope, at least not anymore lol
I merged them.
No, it does resemble the look of fluid backing up.
