Hi!
We’ve produced a clutch of 4 ball pythons, 3 turned out blue eyed lucy (as planned) but one of them is very different.
Sadly it has a shark mouth, not very severe but still.
It looks partially translucent, has very red pupils & our friend (that breeds ball pythons as well) haven’t seen anything like it.
The breeding was Butter Leopard Fire x Mojave Leopard Fire pos. Yellowbelly
Have any of you seen this?

Are you listing the female 2nd in the pairing? Is the baby in question female? Maybe a product of parthenogenesis.

Red pupils are common in BELs. They look dark until the light hits them.
Is it possible that the pairing has het pied?
The markings towards the tail look suspiciously like a het pied ringer.
Some BELs with a lesser/butter gene at hatching will have a translucent head. That fills in more as they grow and becomes less see through.
The two different colors on the body can happen. The reason I ask is my male who is het pied super Mojave had a similar effect as a hatchling. It could also be a result of the other genes like super fire or leopard reacting to what invisible pattern they have. Even though BELs can look solid white, if you put them under a blacklight you can still see some patterns. Super fire or leopard may have just cranked it up.
Edit:
Looked up a photo of my boy where you can see the similar effect of his stomach/side pattern. He’s just older here so the scales are thicker and more grown in than a fresh hatch.

I listed the female first, Butter Leopard Fire. And the little one is a female

Thank you for the response!
None of the parents are het pied, traced back to respective grand parents to double check. But no pied genes there.
This female is more than likely fire/super fire due to the eyes. As one of her siblings is a normal BEL (blue eyed & black pupils), the other BEL is like you described with the red visible in brighter light.
All light animals have some sort of patterns beneath, it’s amazing!
Btw, gorgeous boy you have!

I’d say since you don’t have any Pied in the snake’s genetic history it is the Fire bringing up that translucency. Still a really cool thing to see though in a BEL!
The little one has a really neat headstamp too

By the genetics it’s possible that it’s a Super Fire Butter Mojave. I’m considering to get a shed test to see
