Hello everyone! I am one step closer to starting my first breeding project and am starting with piebald! I got my male from a super cool local guy, its 100% het pied, 100% het ghost, and pastel. Next I need to find myself a full grown female which will be a challenge im sure! If you had this male what genes would you choose to mix him with?
At the minimum DH Hypo Pied.

Yes. There is also an orange ghost, but I think Deb is telling you to go with straight Ghost 
Yes both word are interchangeable Hypo = Ghost even though it is technically the wrong term but that is another story.
Actually he needs to go with a Double Het Hypo Pied as a minimum just like is male still a long shot od wise, he could go with a Hypo Het Pied as well however I would not waste a Double Het Male on a female Hypo Het Pied or Pied Het Hypo myself, and price wise there is gonna be a big difference.

so I should not get a hypo het pied or pied het hypo, but instead get at least a double het hypo pied? Or are you just saying it will be cheaper to go for a double het instead of getting any visuals.
Both I would not waste a DH Het male on a Hypo Het Pied female or a Pied Het Hypo female. If you get a Hypo Het Pied female the logical male investment wise would be a Pied het hypo male.
When breeding and investing you want your male to be as genetically powerful as your female not less, just like you would NEVER breed a normal male to any female.
okay I think I see what you are saying, since the male is a double het then the female should be double het to “match” the male best as possible? At first I was thinking the smart thing to do would to be to do my best to get a het pied visual ghost or het ghost visual pied that way I have higher probabilities of hitting combos. instead it seems the conclusion is to get double het ghost/pied instead of visual then maybe see if I can find a three gene female whether the third is pastel, pinstripe or whatever it will hopefully lead to more diversity.
Ideal option is a Hypo Pied.
Next best is a Pied het Hypo or a Hypo het Pied.
A search in MM revealed Hypo het Pied females go for as low as $250. Pied het hypos are less abundant, have other mutations stacked in, and run $800+ currently. Double homozygous ghost/pieds listed for just a couple hundred more it makes sense to go all out and get a hypo pied. If lowest entry cost is the goal a hypo het pied seems to be the best route. I dont see any currently listed but given current pricing and the demand for visual pied females if you are wanting a sub adult or adult female your best bet may also be a hypo het pied.
