This is what I’ve been planning so far. These will be two projects of mine for way into the future when I can get these breeders. I was wondering how much demand would be for the wanted outcome of these, and possibly to theorize how a “chocolate purple punch” may appear, since I haven’t been able to find any images for one. There really is no way to predict what the market will be ‘far into’ the future. The hognose market is pretty fast moving. These may be more available combos by then so the demand can be low.
Regardless, it’s great to be looking at info like this for the future and not having hastily purchased animals to make a messy project.
Also just in case. Artic to artic will still have the potential to miss. 50% of the offspring theoretically will have artic, but that 25% won’t. Just saw the note following saying All Artic ect…

Do remember, if you plan to purchase young snakes and grow them out versus paying more for breeding size adults when you start out, you add another 2-3+ years of waiting for your females to get to size. As @armiyana said, the market is changing pretty quickly, especially as the popularity of hognoses has increased. There is no way to tell what will be in demand, however it’s good to work with morphs you have interest in.
In regards to your calculations as they stand, just remember the percentage possibility is per gene, per egg. So for example, if your first pairing ended up proving all pos hets, you’d have a 1/16 chance of hitting the all gene animal per egg. Also as Christina noted, your calculations on that second pairing are incorrect. Not only would they not be all arctic, but if both parents are het swiss chocolate, the offspring each have a 66% chance of being het, not 33%. All offspring would be Het Axanthic, Het Toffee Belly, 66% Het Swiss Chocolate at minimum. Genetic testing is currently being developed for hognoses. Chances are you may be able to test to confirm pos hets by the time you start breeding, if this is going to be several years in the future.

Thank you both for the responses! Thanks also for pointing out the mistakes, I did write this out pretty quickly. Luckily the first pairing would be for my dream morph but it’s unfortunate that the market it said to change so quickly. For the second pair, what are the chances of superarctic then if there are any? I only really want to start these projects for my love of genetics and hognose/reptile keeping so the income will just be a plus for me.

That’s just the way the market works. Changes happen more quickly the more popular a species is, and it also drives the prices down. As for your second pair, each offspring would have a 25% chance of being a super arctic. If you want to learn more about the odds of any pairings, you can play around with MorphMarket’s genetic calculator for hognoses. While it doesn’t allow for pos hets, it will tell you the possibilities from a given pairing and probabilities of each morph combination possible.
