My sweet litle crested gecko, Dieter, who just turned 3 years old on the 22th of november started to develop red spotting on his face. Mostly around places he has had past injuries (mouth and nose).
This year i got him because his old owner couldnt care for him anymore so i dont know much about any past injuries. When i got him the top of his head kind of looked transparent and i just assumed it was normal because it had all the normal textures but i’ve never seen that before in any cresties. He has been acting fine and eating more than ever. hes sort of cohabbed with my other male crestie Nacho but there is a barrier and no way of them getting to eachother, could this be a cause for his sudden red spots? They’ve lived semi together sinds they came to me and never had any kind of issues.
i just need someones advise on what it could be so i know if i should take him to the vet or if there is another remidie for this.

I’d be wondering if there was some issue with rubbing due to the fact that he can, at the very least, smell another male in the area. I’ll tag in @autumngeckos & @ghoulishcresties to see if they have any suggestions. I always suggest a vet visit if you’re worried about anything, even minor, as it’s better to have a professional opinion either way (so long as you have a solid reptile vet available).

First off, I’d get them their own vivs. That’s not a big enough space for them at all and there’s basically nothing in there for them… also the stress of seeing each other isn’t fair on them at all. Atleast 45x45x60 each. Lots of branches and plants and hiding spaces needed. Clutter them up so they can thrive! X
Now with the marks. If injured before, then it’s scaring. It can flare up now and again especially with gecko firing up and down the marks can become more noticeable. I’ve had this before, breeding geckos sometimes can result in a nice love bite which the gecko usually will always have and sometimes looks more red than other times.

Thank you for your advise the cohabbing situation wasnt meant to be permanent and their enclosure is fairly new (thats why there are so many toiletrolls everywhere as hidingspots) bamboo and bromelias are on the way but till they arrive this is their state i have some fake vine i will hang in there. Also they can not see eachother at all i made verry sure to cover every litle gap. Their enclosures are 40x45x70 each so they have pretty much enough space but i can imagine it might look smaller in the picture. Do you think they can smell eachother? Is there anything i can do about that?

The photos aren’t good enough to tell, it could be either scarring, simply just red/orange pigment, which some geckos get at random, or something else. If it’s around areas where he’s been injured, i’d imagine that it’s scarring though, like Ghoulish mentioned. “Cohabbing” the way you’re doing it shouldn’t be a problem since it isn’t really much different than just keeping two tanks/tubs side by side so i doubt that’s causing it. The tanks do seem a bit empty, it could be from rubbing due to boredom, so i would add more stuff. As long as he’s acting normal though, and it doesn’t seem infected, i wouldn’t be too worried
