Pool Time! 😁

Our big girl Mirage loves having soaks outside in bright natural sunlight

Keeps the water nice and warm and she gets natural UV rays out of it too.

I kept a green iguana for a couple decades (not recommending them as a pet, BTW – I’m glad we’ve moved past iguanas), and his favorite times seemed to be when he was able to hang out outside. Tough thing to do when living in the city – herps weird some people out, and it isn’t good to weird people out with a hobby that already has a target on its back – but we had more private space when he was older and that worked great.

Oh yeah I definitely agree, been there and done that.

My sister and her husband had one for a while that was not socialized by the breeder at all. They got him as a juvenile and he was defensive with everyone, he ended up tail whipping my sister so bad that it broke the skin and he bit her husband multiple times. They decided on giving him to a friend of theirs who also keeps herps because they didn’t want the iguana to hurt their kiddos.

Not saying every Iguana is like that, I think this was a special case… however their care and space requirements are still tough to maintain for the average keeper, and having an aggressive Iguana that was only going to keep getting bigger and cause more bodily harm is definitely not good for anyone. I greatly respect ppl who can keep them in good conditions and meet all of their needs.

I’d be careful taking him outside if you aren’t aware already.

Some Beardies do a complete 180 in their behavior when they are outside, idk why this is a thing but I’ve seen it happen multiple times with other Beardies and experienced it once with ours. I think they become overstimulated and it stresses them greatly, so go slow with outside exposure if your Beardie isn’t used to going out.

Thankfully our Beardie outgrew the “outside zoomies” as my hubby refers it.

I’ve taken Draco out a good amount of times, he gets stressed to begin with (i feel bad but it’s kinda cute cause he will run over to me and hide under my leg when i’m sitting in the grass) but then he settles down and enjoys himself. It has been a while though so i will definitely go slow and make sure it’s not doing him more harm than good.

I got a farmed male as a hatchling that never got more than minimally tolerant of me. Yes, they can be dangerous.

On the ‘zoomies’ – yes, that was definitely true of my iguana outside on a warmish day. I always took it to indicate that he was in prime shape in that environment, and that more tolerant behavior indoors was an indication that he was less than satisfied in some way (temps, UV, fresh air, whatever). Outside, he acted a lot like the feral ones in Florida act (I’ve tried to catch a few while down there, and they’re everything a wild animal should be). Maybe at least some of the behavioral change outside is positive from the animal’s POV. I’ve not kept a beardie, so I can’t speculate on them though.
