Pre-Lay Behavior

Hey there! I have a female ball python that is 46 days post-ovulation, and I’m curious if anyone else observes their gravid females trying to escape the tub in those last days before laying. For about a week now I’ve checked her twice a day, and she’s consistently at the front of the tub acting like she wants out. I know that females become very uncomfortable and restless before laying. At night she’s usually back on the heat and coiled up (tail still on the outside though) but it’s just interesting to me that she’s been so active throughout the day. Anyone else see this/what are some signs you’ve observed within your own gravid females in the days leading up to laying?

Weirdly one of my girls gave herself a good rub spot this year. She didn’t seem as antsy last year.

I think it all depends on the individual snake and maybe a bit on how they are kept. Tub vs cluttered cage and such

That’s what this girl is doing! It does seem to vary from snake to snake quite a bit. This is her first breeding season, and I do see a big difference in behavior in comparison to a female that I have who has laid clutches before, they’re about a week apart on due dates. Super interesting.
