So i want to get my first snake. I have plenty of expierence with other reptiles. Turtles, iguanas, bearded dragons, geckos, etc. Thinking about getting a spotted python as my first. Suggestions? Comments?
Spotted are a perfect for first snake.
All species in Antaresia family are great but stay away from baby pygmee pythons. Its mostly becuse of size of the babies.
A other snake i will always recommend is woma python, They can be abit nippy as young, just need some regular handling. I have never meet a woma that refused to eat
Womas are in my opinion one of the best beginner pythons
Agreed on a woma’s healthy appetite. My boy would eat every day if he could. Crazy food response as well.
As far as being a good beginner snake, I am not sure about this. Duncan can be a tail whipper if I try to retrieve him without touching his head with something such as a paper towel roll etc. As long as he doesn’t see me when I pick him up he is fine. Once out of his enclosure he is a total puppy dog!
I think the spotted, childrens, or a Stimsons would be a great choice. I had a Stimsons for awhile and he was a really nice little snake with a great personality and appetite……
I would get a BCI Colombian boa. Or any morph boa you like. BCI boas are very tame, even most baby BCI. Some babies will need a little handling but tame down quickly. Big enough to be impressive, but not overly to big to handle. They are active and most like interacting with people. I have owned hundreds of boas in the past 50 years and most would come out to greet me when I open their cage. Currently I own 37 boas.
In my opinion get a baby boa not an adult one for your first boa. This way both of you will learn how to interact with each other as the boa grows. And when it’s a big adult you will not be scared of it. Females get bigger than males so if you want a small boa get a male.
Ooo beautiful sneks!! Yeah i was stuck on the fence either a stimson or spotted. I dont have a TON of space, but i think i have plenty of room for a spotted setup. I live in an apartment so deff needs to be a smaller snake lol.
Thanks! And You will be fine with either, especially in an apartment. But just to be safe, have you checked with your apartment landlord to make sure you are allowed to keep a snake?
Yes. They dont mind reptiles. They pretty much are fine with everything except dogs and birds.
