Question about calcium with d3 coupled with a uvb

Hello! I was wondering how often i should give my baby gecko calcium with d3? Should i dust d3 2 times a week? Or every day? I know its possible to overdose them on d3 so i was just wondering what i should do. I fed him 5 bugs all dusted with d3 and i have a small thing of pure calcium in there for him. Thank you!

Edit: he has a uvb light thats on from dawn to dusk. I turn if off at night as to not disturb his circadian rhythm

He doesn’t need a UVB light. It can do him more harm than good. I just put some calcium in a small dish for mine to consume as he needs it.

In the wild leopards do not come out until night. Therefore they do not get UVB which is why your gecko doesn’t need it.

My vet recommends the Repashy brand as far as calcium etc……

Oh really? I read that it was beneficial for them during the day. Amd to turn it off at night. From multiple places as well. But i will definitely look into it more! Thank you for th3 advice!

Leopard geckos can actually be a little tricky sometimes as far as supplementation. The good thing is they will regulate their intake for themselves 95% of the time when offered the right vitamins and minerals.

I like to leave my geckos with two little dishes of powder, one for a multivitamin and the other for calcium. A bottlecap can work great for this. Just something they can lick at when they want. The calcium that I use is mostly just straight calcium, but 2x a month they get a tiny scoop of the calcium with D3 instead. I try to keep the dishes clean and don’t add too much powder at a time so it’s easier to keep up. You could also dust the feeders with the D3 calcium if you prefer

Leopard geckos are definitely more active in times where the sun isn’t super bright. dawn and dusk or just nighttime overall. You can absolutely provide a UVB light for them, but you want to make sure that it’s not a really bright one. A lower UV level bulb is fine, a full desert spectrum can be a little too strong since again… they’re usually not out when it’s really bright. If you have live plants in the terrarium, they’ll still be happy too.
They can still be fine without a UVB, a couple of mine are currently housed without a UVB. But it can be enriching for different setups, provide a regular day/night cycle or if the little one is feeling under the weather.

I have a bottle cap with pure calcium in there for him already! And my uvb isnt that strong. As for multivitamins, what brand do you recommend?

The current vitamin mix I have is Zoomed Reptivite without D3. Rep-Cal Herptivite is another okay one.
Any other multivitamin will probably do fine as well, but just make sure it doesn’t have the added D3. Or just be careful on how often you give it if you decide to do the multivite with D3 instead of the calcium.

This is what my reptile vet recommended to me. It’s a one and done product…
