Hi,
I am considering getting a snake but I might live abroad for 10 months in about a year. I was wondering if there were specific organizations or any individuals that could take care of a snake for 10 months. If so how likely would it be to find someone willing to do it at the time we need? And if this is a thing what would a reasonable fee be?
Thanks!

That’s quite a long time to board a snake! Maybe consider waiting to get one until after you’re back?

As Olivia said, you may want to wait until you return to get one.
Firstly, long term boarding for any type of pet is hard to find. For exotics, it’s basically non-existent. You’d need to have a very niche business in your area, actually know someone personally willing to watch an animal that long, or use a pet sitting service. If you could find someone willing to board that long, a reasonable fee would be hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, depending on what kind of care you expect. Boarding is typically paid by the day, and there is a premium for exotics.
There’s also the responsibility aspect. It is irresponsible to purchase any pet knowing within the next year or two that you are going to be gone for almost a full year and thus leaving it in someone else’s care. It is not fair to the animal to deal with that kind of upheaval, regardless of species. It’s best to just wait until your life is more stable and you’re able to give your new animal your full attention.

Waiting until I get back would probably be wiser. Thank you so much for your perspective on this matter.
