So yesterday i bought a Honduran Curly Hair Tarantula and on the enclosure it came with the scientific name was Tilitocatl albopilosus and i wanted to ask is the Nicaraguan curly hair a different species than the Honduran because people call them Tilitocatl albopilosum
Read this article on Tarantula Collective. It sort of explains the whole thing. And there is some top notch info on husbandry.
Thanks David! I can use this information as well! You are so good! I nominate you for the title of STAFF!
All curly hairs are now placed in the genus Tliltocatl regardless of origin.
I meant the other part of scientific name not genus
The correct species name is albopilosus.
Both the Nicaraguan and Honduran are the same species, they just come from different locations. The Nicaraguan is considered to be the most pure bloodline of the two. Hondurans are considered more the “hobby form” meaning they may have been crossbred somewhere along the line years ago. Nicaraguans also seems to have more golden hairs than the Hondurans.
