I have a couple projects using black pastel and have quite a few examples. I noticed one I have is labeled Barnhart bp that acquired before it was determined to be a separate gene but still acts like super. My question is does a Black Pastel + Barnhart Black Pastel still exhibit the same genetic issues such as duckbill, bugeyes, kinking?? I head super Barnhart still do but never heart about a combo super with one of each.??
Yes, Barnhart black pastel in combination with any other 8ball morph (barnhart black pastel, black pastel, or cinnamon) still exhibits the same risk of kinking, bug eyes, and duckbilling.
I haven’t seen the ‘8ball’ cause bug eyes, just missing eyes in the case of severe facial deformities…
I will also clarify that the ‘8 ball complex’ itself has a handful of genes that are fine as an allelic combo with no deformities. Enchi or HRA for example when combo’d to blk pastel, Barhart blk pastel or cinny.
The deformities are specifically in a combination of Blk pastel, Barhart Blk pastel, cinnamon or the 3rd line of Blk pastel they’re trying to isolate. Basically the animals that do result in the ‘8 ball’ or mostly black snake in that complex.
so i did end up with a clutch of super BP (plus blackhead and ghi) and out of the 4 that were super bp, one had severe kink and deformed eye. is that the expected deformed rate? 25%?
