I am looking for assistance getting a quince monitor to eat. Little monitor went about 2 weeks without food or heat. I went and got him, doesn’t appear ill, (vet appointment scheduled) he now has 120 basking spot that moderates to 95, cool side goes down to 82. Little dude hides, he isn’t eating. I have tried sliced fish, chicken, Dubia roaches, and now super worms. He’s nothing like my other monitors. They are all over their enclosures and love to eat. Any advice would be appreciated.
Not the most knowledgeable on monitors, but offhand…
Do you have photos of the little guy so we can see the body condition?
How long has he been with you after that 2 weeks?
Have you tried rodents? Or even scenting chicken with frogs or geckos maybe?
Has he been properly hydrated after being left that long? If he’s dehydrated that can definitely interfere with his activity levels.
Otherwise from what I understand they can also become impacted easily without the correct temps and water.
I have had the little guy 5 days, mice punkie was the next item to try. (According to my research, quince monotors are part of the mangrove complex and eat mostly insects and eggs)
His body condition looks 0kay, but he is very small for his age. I’ll try to get a picture and figure out how to post it.(I’ve had trouble with pictures since the update)
If you just got him and he wasn’t being cared for well. He is probably stressed. I would add a few crickets at a time. He probably will eat them as they run by or when no one is around. Good luck with him.
If he hadn’t started eating by now… ![]()
