Regurgitation?

I fed my hognose snake 2 day ago. Today I saw this in the enclosure. What is this? Was fed with 4-7gramm mice. 10 months old male albino.

No, there are urates in it, so it came out the back end. I only have one hog, and I’m no expert, but 28g seems like a huge meal for a juvie male. Maybe an expert will chime in.

Hi. I write 4 to 7 gramm fuzzy mice could be. Is not stomach acid?

It’s poop. Colubrid poop looks like that sometimes.

Colubrid poop? What is it? And are you sure about? I am worried its regurgitation. When I should feed him next time? Chatgpt give opinion that its regurgitation and I should feed him 2 weeks later instead of normal 7 days.
Thank you for your help.

Hognoses are from the colubrid family of snakes. Colubrids tend to have faster metabolisms compared to other types of snakes and sometimes their poop looks like that. I get that it’s a little light in color but it is poop not a regurgitated feeder.

Also that brownish black parts looks like intestines, or undigested fuzzy mouse parts. Not??

Also 2 days ago was fed. Is it normal so fast digestion and poop?
You think i can feed normal after 6-7 days again?

Please don’t use ChatGPT for things like this, it is not always accurate.

Absolutely not intestines, it’s poop that has gone through the digestive tract.

What size is your snake and how often are you normally feeding it? Two days from feeding to poop can be normal. How long have you had it?

Along with the question that NoodleHaus has .
Can you tell us the temperature in the enclosure? What is the hottest temperature the snake can lay on.

There’s urates in there so I agree that it is poop not regurge. Urates are the reptile version of pee. When solid they’re like a white rock or powder from the urea in urine. Sometimes the liquid or stone is very yellow and can look like stomach acid.

Your basking spot should be 33ºC, warm side should be closer to 27-29ºC. Cool side temps are fine. Otherwise everything else sounds fine. This is a poop, and now that he has pooped I would suggest adding some substrate as hognoses are a burrowing species.

One thing I did that was a mistake, that I handled him few times today. Thats why I thought its regurgitation. Also believed to the internet.
Next times I dont touch for for 72 hours. :expressionless:

Thank you. I will do so. I just wanted to keep monitor him for few weeks on paper towel substrate.

A couple weeks on towel should be fine, just make sure there’s some clutter in the enclosure so he can feel secure until you add substrate. Ideally when you first get a new snake you shouldn’t handle them for at least a week, and with hognoses you may want to wait until they’ve taken 2-3 meals just so they don’t refuse food.

Thank you. Actually he is very tame friendly. After handling, he grabs my hand when I want to place back to his enclosure. And he took the prey 2 days ago nicely, without hesitation with slow movement.

Sounds like you’ve got a lovely little hognose there and are doing well with him!

Yes he is my first snake. Likes to sit in my pocket too…
He is really cute. And I am happy that he is tame being a hognose snake.
Funny having a snake that has different face expressions from different angles. Angry, happy etc
