Reptile Morph Art Series

Guess who’s new digital pen came in the mail today!!

I spent the evening piloting out some potential YRH (Your Reptile Here) comission bases for y’all!
I tried to hit every common (ish) kept reptiles and make sure they were all dynamic!

If I open these up for sale (once I get back to school and in a routine) they’d be cheap, probably $5 or 5 for $20. Let me know if this is too pricey!

I’d give you a background like with my DD series, but also a background-less PNG so you can make your design into a sticker for yourself if you’d like!

I’d love feedback on this idea, and if anyone would actually be interested!

That sounds like a great price! another thing you could do is do $5 for your normal style and $8 for your old, more detailed style. Or maybe a package deal like $30 for 3-4 drawings and a logo. just some ideas I thought some people (myself included) would be interested in.

These are great ideas! I’ll work to create several options, that’s perfect!

Silly question: with the PNG when received by the buyer, could they put a name somewhere (like their reptile’s name or name of their business or something) easily and them make it all into a sticker? I am quite artistically challenged :face_with_peeking_eye:

Yes!

I can either add that for you, or you can do it if you prefer, and you’d be able to use the PNG for a sticker, a business card, merch, anything really!

I’m totally fine with you using my designs for that, since in this case I’d be getting paid. Though since this is a base comission, other people would have the same ‘shape’ of reptile with different colors, so if you wanted a unique pose, it would be a bit extra

Oh I forgot to say that that should cost more, I would definitely be willing to pay for that type of personalization. This is so neat

I’ll keep that in mind as I make a price list, thank you!

I’d love some feedback on these price ideas:

  • Reptile using base (bases above) - $5 for 1, $20 for 5

  • Custom reptile (either a different species or a different pose) - $15 for 1, $25 for 2
(more expensive because the outlining takes forever; also please note that while you can describe the pose [strike, playing dead, etc] I’ll need to find a ref that works best for me)

I’m not sure how to advertise custom logos, etc, since those are going to be more expensive still, as they usually require 10+ drafts with changes before a piece is done, but let me know if you have any ideas!

Also, if there is a common reptile that MANY people would be interested in, I’m happy to make a $5 base for it, I just hit the most common ones I could think of

Definitely reasonable but maybe bring it down to something like $12 for one, and 30 for three. The only reason I say this is because besides for us here, you haven’t really made a name for yourself yet. The price may turn people away from your work because you won’t have as many people that can attest for your work compared to someone else. Once you have become a bit more well known, bumping up the price to the 15 for one and 25 for 2 will not be as off turning as people will trust your work more.

Then again I have no clue what I am talking about so you can completely ignore everything I just said

No, no that’s totally fair! It’s hard to balance trying to make sure things are cheap without completely underselling myself. I’ve stopped to doing pieces that take an hour for $2, and that’s just not fair to myself sometimes

Maybe a bearded dragon? I feel like you’ve hit most of the other most common pet species. I was also going to suggest a chameleon, but there are several different species that all have pretty unique shapes to them, so it might not make as much sense to do a $5 base for them.

I totally need to do one for beardies, thank you!

I also thought maybe chameleons but ran into the same issue, so many shapes!

And definitely try to make it look animated . Like an ultra cute, “slightly”-larger-than-normal-eyed bearded dragon :joy:. Not to mention with a big grin @cmills .

Noted!

If you wanted, you could just do a veiled and a panther. Those seem to be the most common. You could do a basic chameleon shape and then just add the nose for the panther and the crest for the veiled? :person_shrugging: Just spit balling, I’m not an artist…like, at all. :joy:
