On this post everyone please send pictures of you most favorite, rare, or awesome reptiles or amphibians (isopods welcome). Sorry I don’t have pictures of my own reptiles but the coolest thing I have is rubber ducky isopods.
Rubber Ducky isopods! What a name.
“Rubber Ducky, joy of joys—
When I squeeze you, you make noise…”
Bantam Miami Caramel Shatter Stripe female corn snake:
I have a hard time picking favorites because they all have different qualities that make them awesome, so I’ll go with rare. Here’s a pair of Louisiana Pine Snakes, one of the rarest snakes in North America.
Those are awesome! Where did you get them?
@fnek Not sure if that was for me, but the LA Pines are from Michael Coone out of Hickory, NC. LA Pines and Black Pines are both ESA listed, so they require the buyer to obtain an interstate commerce permit for sales or trades across state lines. Since Michael and I are both NC residents, I didn’t have to go through the interstate commerce permit process which was nice. I would have done it anyways because I really wanted to work with this species. Michael is committed keeping a genetically diverse collection of animals and getting them into the hands of other responsible keepers in different states.
With their protected status, there is no new blood coming into the hobby so genetic 'bottle necking" will become an issue. There’s also the problem of LA Pines available in the hobby that have been crossed with other pine snake and gopher/bull snake species. He is meticulous about ensuring that his animals have verifiable lineage and were obtained legally.
Michael was a recent guest on the Colubrid and Colubroid Radio podcast were he discussed his work and his husbandry practices for his LA and Black Pine collection. If you are interested, you should definitely check it out.
My “rarest” critter right now is probably my lava spider, but it’s still too tiny to really photograph.
So here’s all the rest of them!
Avicularia purperea sling
Psalmopoeus reduncus juvie
Tliltocatl albopilosus
Grammostola pulchripes
Latrodectus hesperus
Those are all my current spiders (aside from the tiny lava sling). I’ll do the snakes in a separate post.
Gus is really cool! Beautiful flower too!
looks like some kind of rattlesnake, maybe an eastern diamondback rattlesnake.
I love gus
