Salamander Herping Photos

Went out last night and achieved a major goal. Where I live we have three unique subspecies of Web Toed Salamander - Hydromantes shastae Hydromantes samweli and Hydromantes wintu

They are very rare not because of habitat loss or anything sinister, they just have tiny known ranges and can’t really exist outside them. On the map the orange is shastae, the yellow is samweli, and the red is wintu

Last night we found not one but four shastae within 40 feet of each other.

Earlier in the night we found more Dicamptodon tenebrosus larva as well.
