Sexing hognose!

Hey everyone. So I’m looking to potentially trade for this hognose. They are local to me and I’m wondering if you guys think this is a female?
I know the pictures aren’t great but I could ask for more.

That second photo is making me cringe, but looking at the photos, even with poor quality that looks pretty male to me. I can count at least 30 visible scale pairs and the tail continues a ways after. The lack of immediate taper soon after the cloaca also suggests male. Do you know the age of this snake?

I would say male as well :+1:

Yeah, I agree. And they said the snake is 2 years old and weighs 120 grams.

I was going to say, if it were that size after about 3-4 that’d be a definite male, but the age and weight could go either way. Still, all other signs point to male.

Oh, I realize I misread the message! The seller said the snake is 3.

In that case i have a female of the same size and relative age for comparsion. As you can see, her tail is a lot shorter and tapers soon after the cloaca.

I see, it’s definitely much shorter and more tapered. Very pretty girl, btw!

Thanks, she’s quite the character and probaby my favorite of my “normal” girls. I’ve been slow growing her.

You already got the answer but I’ll just reinforce it by saying that absolutely looks like a male. :+1:
