Shed test causing confusion

So I need someone input here. Years ago I purchased what was listed as a Black Pastel, Chocolate from Freedom Breeder. I no longer own her but she produced 2 females that I held back that I ID’d as Black Pastel, Spotnose. I never produced anything that appeared to be Chocolate but I did produce animals that I thought were clearly Black Pastel. Fast forward to my holdbacks offspring and genetic testing and now I’m kind of stuck. I’ve tested two animals so far, one for Black Pastel one for Barnhart Black Pastel. Both of these tests have come back negative. So I’d like to post some pics see if people see Black Pastel and if you don’t then what do you see. First pics will be my holdbacks from a couple years ago followed by their offspring that I think have Black Pastel. I have one more shed test pending which is one of the holdbacks tested for Black Pastel and Barnhart. Chime in please people.

There’s always the off chance that they are a nice line of cinnamon. But that goes down a rabbit hole of who did FB get the 8ball complex animals from if they were originally IDed incorrectly?

For anyone still following even my holdback females have tested negative for BP and barnhart. So now i have absolutely no idea what my animals are or what im working with. Thanks a lot Freedom Breeder, whose only reply was from a customer service guy who said they dont keep records over 1 year and it was before his time. Real great customer support there.

I’m terrible at ID. But maybe worth testing one for chocolate. Too bad there isn’t a cinnamon test. I could use one of those too.

You may want to consider having the full panel test on the original holdback, and then again on one of the offspring, including any other single genes you may suspect are present. It will cost you a bit and take a few weeks, but it will save you from making misidentified animals in the future, as well as help you plan a direction you want to take, knowing what you are working with.

Just a thought.

Tested one for chocolate came back negative. Havent tested the second holdback yet

That really wont be much help as there is no test for cinny, or HRA, or Huffman. All of which people say could be mistaken for BP. The fact of the matter is i would bet money its a third line of BP. Because the combos i have all match up more to corresponding BP combos than they do to the same combos with those other listed genes. The problem is how to market and sell the animals. Since Freedom Breeder is no help in providing me lineage im tempted to just slap a new name on it and sell it as such.

Small update. Spoke with RGI. There are apparently other breeders currently dealing with the exact same issue. Very well could be a third mutation giving Black Pastel appearance. I basically still have to go off my views on the animals and what i see as theres no other definitive ID method barring a test for cinny and/or this 3rd BP mutation.

Oof. I found myself needing to wait it out for the NoCo or GCR special tests. mine tested negative on the Baker line special.

Definitely frustrating… But handy to know that this can explain so much in the different ways these genes express themselves even when they look pretty dang close

Yea special is another one. They said theres 3 different versions of that.
