Shed test results...

I have purchased an enchi cinnamon spotnose ball python female… I wanted to be sure of her genetics so naturally i chose to do a shed test 49 panel gene test from RGI… I was surprised to find the leopard gene also present… while I would love this to be so… I dont see it… Wouldnt the Leopard gene be pretty easy to identify? Is it possible the test was wrong?

If the expression on the leopard gene was low, the strength of the allelic enchi and cinnamon combo can overwhelm it.

That being said… The way that the side pattern chains together is the leopard gene at work

I see it, but I also see why its difficult to pick out.

Cinnamon can mask Leopard but the blushing in between the alienheads gives it away for me. Both Cinnys and Leopards can have chaining alienheads but this snake shows Leopard in the chaining.

I’m more surprised to see that this one has Enchi honestly, I see Cinny and Leopard way more.

It’s the orange pop. A lot of cinny enchis can look like cinny with bright orange markings.
The ones that look more enchi usually aren’t as bright

While Leopard does tend to generate the “chaining”, it is also worth noting that Spotnose can also be responsible for this phenotype so there is a possibility that there was an error in the test. In all honesty, if Leo and Spot were both present in this animal, I would expect the pattern to me a lot busier so it might be worth touching base with RGI and asking about a rerun

I contacted the breeder and they insisted that there is no leopard in the pairing. I also contacted RGI and they insured me there was no mistake, “they test for each gene individually” but they offered to pull the sample and do a “quick test” for confirmation… but they stand by their results. So I will up date tomorrow when i receive the new tests

Super pretty snake! I’m not a bp person, so my morph IDs should be taken with a mountain of salt, but her funky side pattern definitely suggests leopard to me.

It’s possible the breeder’s record keeping got messed up somehow (no shade intended, we’re all human), or there’s the possibility of retained sperm. Or a parent that was misidentified and not sold/labeled as leopard when it did indeed have leopard.

That’s a super cool looking snake no matter what morph it is! I’m a BP person myself! :+1:
