Im curios if people account for shipping supplies(boxes, bags, etc) and bump your shipping charge a little for that or do you just charge whatever the rate is that you’re quoted by your preferred shipping service.
To me, shipping supplies are just a business expense that it’s my responsibility to cover. Some people may inflate shipping or the cost of the animal to account for it, but in my experience (especially in the current market) buyers are already reluctant to pay for shipping anyway because it’s so much more expensive than it was a few years ago. So I just buy shipping supplies with the money that I earn from the sale of animals, and it’s a business expense. My goal isn’t to make a profit, though - my goal is to make enough to put back into the care of my animals, so if you’re in a business model that’s more focused on profit, that method may not work for you.
I personally do not include the cost of shipping supplies in the cost of my animals, I actually even pay for some of the shipping cost out of pocket so my customers don’t have to pay so much for it. @inspirationexotics shipping has indeed become very expensive in the past few years no less than $100 to ship out of Texas for just one package…
Unfortunately sometimes shipping costs more than the actual animal!
