Shipping, during the winter rest/brumation

Hello everyone,

I bought a bearded dragon a few weeks ago (rehome), but haven’t shipped it yet. It recently went into hibernation.

Now to my question:
Can you ship a bearded dragon that is hibernating or do I have to wait 2-4 months?
Of course I would like to have him now and the seller is also a bit stressed, because he is moving soon. The only question is whether it will put a lot of stress on the animal?

Thank you for your help

I recently shipped a bearded dragon to a rescue group in NY. He was a month into hibernation at the time. There was no issue. He made the overnight trip just fine.

You are very welcome!

I haven’t really dealt with any species that go into brumation but I would still try and be cautious.

Obviously the most important factor is the current temps. Many breeders keep cut offs this time of year because of the hazardous temps. But also right now is one of the worst times to ship anything. Thankfully not an animal, but my partner just got a message from Amazon about a computer part they ordered being destroyed in shipping and returned to the warehouse.
