Should I breed her?

Hi! This is Harley. She is a female Harlequin crested gecko. I was wondering if she looks to be a good breeder, (When she is of age of course) and if she appears to be anything else besides Harlequin. Her dad was a Lilly white crested gecko, and the mom was a harlequin.

Thanks! Btw, she is fired up in all images.

Depends, it’s important to first and foremost breed for yourself, and not for others. The best way to go about it is, in my opinion, to breed with the intent (in theory) to keep all the babies. That is to say, only breed geckos whose phenotypes you genuinely like and want to work with, so that in the case you need to keep any babies for a while, you don’t mind.

Thank you! Yes I have planned and thought through what I would need to keep any babies for a while, as I am only a hobbyist breeder. I hope to produce healthy, lively babies with my geckos. And yes, I do know that breeding crested geckos does not get you much, to any profit, I just wish to be able to do this for myself, and not for others. Thanks again!

Also, if I were to breed her, what morph would be best if her dad was a Lilly white and the mom was a harlequin?(And a few more traits that I forgot) And, does anyone see any other traits in Harley? I think she is just harlequin but I am not a complete expert on morph identification. Thanks!

So with crested geckos, what you see if what you get for the most part. A lot of people swear lineage matters a lot, and it does in certain cases, but for the most part, the babies will be a mix of the parents. Her dad being an LW doesn’t matter much since she isn’t one herself.

It does look like her white pattern is the white-out trait, rather than your usual white pattern though, potentially white-wall even. She’s also a partial pinstripe.

Yes! I thought she must be a partial pin because of that color difference. Also, I was wondering about the lineage stuff because most people say it matters, while others don’t. Thanks for the info!

Yeah some people absolutely swear that lineage matters, but most of the time, based on what ive seen, it’s more so because they’ve just so happened to hit a combo that looks more like a grandparent than a parent - But usually if you actually look closer at the parents, it’s obvious where the traits are coming from. Lineage does matter with phantoms though, since the phantom usually hides pattern traits. If a phantom had a parent with a lot of pattern, then they’ll often also be able to throw decently patterned babies.

So, the only thing I am wondering now is what morph would go best with Harley? I don’t really know if people still like Dalmatian on patterned crested geckos, and what combo would be the best to go with harlequin? Even though it’s a pretty basic morph, I feel like if I could pair her up with a nice multicolor maybe? Or possibly be able to get some pretty full pinstripes? Please let me know! Thanks!
