Show me your adult boas!

This little lady belongs to my job, her name is sunshine, she’s 9”, around 50 lbs, and is at least 16 years old. No morph, just a normal bci

Awww. thank you! He is definitely our company - and family! - mascot! He was taken care of by some friends of ours for about 5 years (2015-2020) when we stepped out of boas and into skins for a minute, and when we got back into boas two years ago, they re-homed him back with us! Talk about full circle! And we couldn’t be happier :relaxed:.

As for the difference in colors, a Sunglow pattern will stay cleaner with more contrast as they age whereas the Albino pattern will get harder to see/more muddled. In terms of staying “lighter” I think (and I’ll let the other folks here correct me if I am wrong!), it would depend on each pairing and on things such as how much speckling, how wide the pattern, etc.

Sunglows patter seems to not fad like albino as they mature. Both do yellow out more and some albino seem to develop more white. I have had a few albino over the years develop white heads as they get older.

These 3 will all turn yellow. The one on the left will have more white in it and the saddle pattern will disappear as an adult. The one on the right will be more yellow but the patter will fad a bit still be visible as an adult.

Thanks, that info is helpful (and the snakes are beautiful!).

I’d been kind of struggling to figure out how sunglows differed from albinos. I knew sunglows had hypo in them, but was having trouble figuring out exactly how that affected their appearance (no doubt compounded by the difference in lighting and photo quality in MM ads).

Sunglows have bow tie saddles and the red stands out more. They also dont have white outlines around there tail saddles.

Hopefully these pictures help you see the difference.

Super helpful, thank you!

The differences are more subtle (though still quite apparent, now that I know what to look for) in the babies, but they’re pretty dramatic in the adults.

I just want to thank everyone who has shown off their beautiful boas so far!

Honestly, I was kind of hoping that I’d dislike how some of these morphs matured, but they’re all stunning! Which is decidedly unhelpful in narrowing down my choices. :joy:

Currently, I’m leaning heavily towards either IMG, or something in the albino family (albino, sunglow, moonglow, etc.). I guess I kind of like the extremes on the light/dark spectrum. Though much of the hypo stuff is also really beautiful. And I still love leopard. Yeah, I definitely still haven’t made a decision.

Have you seen a good quality blood boa? You might like those too :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

Although expensive RC fire VPI look insane as well. @tommccarthy has some of the best looking albino/sunglows IMO

I do indeed love bloods! I also like the idea of being able to say that I have a blood python and a blood boa. :joy:

Most of the fire combos I’ve seen are, unfortunately, out of my price range (although I don’t know about that combo specifically). My upper price limit is around $1500, I’ve decided. Much more than that and I’d have to start skimping on the habitat, which I’m not really willing to do. I want to be able to set up the new baby nicely and to be able to afford a nice big adult enclosure and setup without having too tight a budget.

Looking forward to seeing what you go with👍

“Hesperis,” a 2012 OS Black Argentine. I have had Ladon and Hesperis for 10 years as of last month.

Beautiful, thanks for sharing! They’re all gorgeous, but I think Ladon is my favourite. Hard to beat a big, beautiful, dark Argentine. Although I also love the lighter-coloured head on Hesperis. And Artemis is stunning as well, her base colour is really lovely.
