She’s a lavender quadstripe

She’s gorgeous. I am still to this day extremely confused about how to tell if something is lavender. I have animals that look exactly like that base-wise but have been told they’re not lavender. I have no clue what’s happening

So lavenders are really just the combo name for a hypo dark base. This means that they don’t really fire up or down and have that lavender look all the time. That is why if you go to buy a lavender, ask for fired up pics. If you get them, then it isn’t the gecko you are looking for as it isn’t truly a lav. So while my crested gecko Neptoon looks lav unfired he still fires up

I have no clue if that is even what you were looking for so I just typed out anyway as I have absolutely nothing better to do right now :upside_down_face:

It helps a bit, but just confuses me overall lol. Being able to visually ID hypo has been difficult for me. I’ve seen labeled hypo animals that fire up darker than a couple of mine, and I’ve also seen animals not labeled as hypo that don’t seem to fire up, and am also just confused out how to know if hypo is present in yellow or red bases

And that is we’re the small bit of knowledge I have on hypo gets thrown out the window of a 7th story building in New York City and lands in a burning dumpster just to create a massive sinkhole just to survive and carry around the 4.76 million dollar debt of medical bills because he was too cheap to buy insurance

This is what it feels like happens to my brain when I try to comprehend crestie morphs. Where is my classic mendelian stuff like in ball pythons :sob: :joy:

I hate to burst your bubble, but lavender Geckos do fire up!

It is a hypo for dark base, meaning it reduces the melanin (won’t go as dark)
However they do still have that lavender look when fired up, just a little darker than before. The less the change, the more the hypo

I admit she doesn’t fire up often but here is an old pic of her fired up

I meant to say that they don’t fire up to be dark and still have that lavender-y look to them . Thanks for correcting me!

Lavenders can actually fire up black, LMR has some lovely examples. But fired down they’re a lavender colour, which is how you tell they’re hypo!

I have lavenders here who only fire grey, and others who fire down lav and up black. So they’re carrying lavender. And Infact Haise gave me 5 lavenders year before last, all ended up beautiful too :face_holding_back_tears:

You’ll get that!
Yellow is hypo, if hypo is in reds they usually fire down pink! And if lavender fired down also hypo! :purple_heart:

I have Dolly here who fires down lavender and her markings actually go pink too!

Stacked hypos, are amazing too. Brighter, lighter usually also.

And it’s how you get some special colours :smirk:

Yeah, my weird gal is probably hypo, and she’s like a yellow pink. Don’t really know what to make of her, other than the fact that she’s gonna give me some neat babies.
