Slug egg popped inside ball python - need advice

I have a ball python with a pretty significant kink in her tail and she laid one slug egg about a week and a half ago. I have NOT bred her and do not plan to, so this was a complete surprise to me. I just checked on her and her rear end looked pretty fat so I started palpating her to see if there was another slug egg and I felt a ‘pop’ inside her and a little bit of what looked like egg yolk trickled out of her cloaca. I put her in a warm bath with a towel on the bottom about 20 min ago, hoping the movement and warmth would encourage her to pass the rest of the egg and any waste that might be inside her. Is it possible for her to push out the deflated egg? What else should I do?

I’d really suggest a vet visit. One, to see if there are any remaining slugs or ongoing dystocia, and two, for antibiotics if necessary to prevent infection from the ruptured egg.

Yeah I’m going to call tomorrow morning to see when I can get an appointment.

I agree. They can become septic pretty quickly in these cases so a vet is definitely what you want.

It’ll also get your foot in the door in case there is an extra one hanging out in there and sticking to the ovary wall.
Poor girl. Hope she does well with treatment
